Donut you love place value? 3rd graders are amazing coding Ozobots to help identify place value in numbers up to 6 digits! @ALG_LCPS Thank you Shawn, @AlgorithmChef , for the great lesson.

So proud to share my daughter illustrated her very first children’s book! She is well on her way to achieving her dream of becoming a famous illustrator. Please show your support by purchasing and sharing this book with others. a.co/d/8LqhFWA

Always a blast when I get to work with the coding comets from @HorizonElem. Everyone loved how the @microbit_edu could be used for so many engaging activities.

5th graders got to try out the new micro:bits provided by the CS Dept and loved it! @AlgorithmChef helped us code them to play rock, paper, scissors and train an AI model to tell the difference between physical movements using the micro:bit’s accelerometer. @csforlcps

This activity was so amazing to observe. The amount of thinking that was going on between each group as they were designing and testing their codes was incredible. Students were fully engaged and did not want to stop when the timer went off.

Today at Waxpool Elem, 5th graders took the role of rover programmers and created codes for their @Ozobot to navigate a grid of Mars. Using information from “Mission Command,” Ss had to test their codes and then send them to @NASA for verification. All of the 5Cs were on display!

I love being a facilitator at this school! I was happy to work with the staff to bring their Trashion Show to life. All the models did an incredible job & the students designed super creative outfits & accessories. @GrubbsMg @NickGrzeda @LCPS_CTAE @LCPSOfficial @LoudounSupe

We had an amazing time with our first Trashion Show on Friday! Thank you to our guest judges, our brave teacher models, our student creators, staff organizers, and everyone who donated recycled items. It was so fun to see our Comets SHINE with this project. 🤩

I had a blast working with the amazing 2nd graders in Mrs. Ruddy’s class this afternoon. They were great Animals Detectives!

Today at the Think Big Space, 2nd graders from Evergreen Mill participated in a livestream lesson that was broadcast to 2 other elementary schools across the county! With the help of @AlgorithmChef, they learned how to use Machine Learning w/ AutoDraw to identify mystery animals.

K-1 Ts spent the afternoon with @AlgorithmChef & @regratz87 rocking out to a @Metallica themed PD that had them Entering the Coding Sandman & Riding the Lightning to help spark CS integration in @SSGSlcps. From @Ozobot to @makeymakey to an air guitar competition, this PD rocked!

K & 2nd grade Ss @HorizonElem learned about Machine Learning from @AlgorithmChef. K Ss used @Google Autodraw to identify living & nonliving things at the park while 2nd grade used Teachable Machine to create a model that identified if an animal migrates or hibernates.

Start saving your recyclables for Horizon's Trashion Show! Students in all grades will participate in a PBL experience to design and create an outfit for their teacher out of recycled materials. See the flyer for details about what items your child should bring in on Mar. 3.

OMG! I love everything about this AND I am going to figure out a way for students to do this for upcoming social science lessons. Thanks for sharing @historysandoval

Students are creating "Labor Leader Legends" and "Ruthless Robber Barons" Funko Pops using @padlet for AI image creation. Ss download images to add to their Google Doc. They are coming out better than I imagined.

Totally one of my favorite days so far this school year!!!!!

We had so much fun celebrating being Comets on Space Day! Every student participated in critical thinking and had FUN! @HorizonElem @AlgorithmChef

Love my job!

One of my favorite moments of today. I love kids’ genuine joy when they succeed at solving a problem! ⁦@HorizonElem⁩ ⁦@AlgorithmChef

What a great way to start my week! I LOVED visiting all of the K-5 classes today and watching the students working on their computer science lessons. #WorldSpaceWeek #CSforLCPS

K-5 Ss @HorizonElem celebrated #WorldSpaceWeek by participating in grade level computer science activities. Ss engaged their critical thinking while using @LEGO_Group, @Ozobot, @Sphero, @Kahoot, @PlayCraftLearn, and @TerrapinBots to learn more about outer space. It was a blast!

What do handshakes and algorithms have in common? As part of a CS & @SSGSlcps lesson, the kindergarten students @HorizonElem became algorithm experts as they worked together to follow the steps of 5 “Secret Handshakes” in order to learn new ways to greet people during the day.
