🌳 In the Amazon, trees live by a trade-off low wood density = fast growth, short life high density = slow growth, long survival This balance shapes forest carbon storage and climate resilience Study used CI-202 to link leaf traits to wood density ➡️ doi.org/10.3389/fpls.2…
Beneath every plant is an invisible world A living architecture of roots that decides how it eats, drinks, and survives. 🌱 RSA changes with soil, age, and environment. Maize keeps making new roots. Lupine goes deep and steady. New article read more: cid-inc.com/blog/what-is-r…
Real-time redox? Auburn researchers hacked the CI-600 root camera to watch soil breathe, hour by hour. Fewer tubes, more data, zero guesswork. full study: doi.org/10.1002/ael2.2…
CO₂ makes plants grow, until it doesn’t. Elevated CO₂ makes plants grow bigger leaves, at first. But the “CO₂ fertilization effect” fades once nutrients, water, or space run out Our latest piece breaks down how this leaf boom slows over time. 🔗: cid-inc.com/blog/how-does-…
Did you know the CI-110 Plant Canopy Imager can measure plants as short as 2 inches tall? That’s shorter than your morning coffee mug. Whether it’s seedlings or towering crops, the CI-110 captures accurate canopy measurements from the ground up! 📸 Precision starts small.
Did you know? In a 2025 ecological study, researchers used a CI-110 to measure light in the Białowieża Forest, and discovered that sunlight made almost no difference in how dung-loving fungi spread. The spores followed their own rules. Full research: doi.org/10.1177/095968…
Leaf Area Index (LAI) measures how much leaf surface plants have per unit of ground area, basically, how efficiently they breathe, grow, and store carbon High LAI = productive ecosystems. Low LAI = sparse, stressed ones. It’s key for tracking crops, forests, and climate change.
#WRR “Plants don’t grow by chance... they grow by design.” This week: peppermint grown under balanced RGB light (1:1:1) reached a height of 36 cm and showed 60% higher antioxidant levels when treated with 1.5–2.0 mM MeJA. Full study: doi.org/10.3390/hortic…
Plant Canopy Imager FAQ 🌿 1️⃣ Measures LAI, canopy cover & gap fraction. 2️⃣ Unlike destructive methods → fisheye images = instant data. 3️⃣ Field-ready → portable, GPS-enabled, saves data. Smarter canopy insights, zero destruction.
🌱 Phosphorus could run out in <100 yrs. Study shows rootstocks change survival in poor soils: CL3 = +68% uptake & +28% growth CL4 = more efficient use CI-203-CID leaf meter proved it’s all in the roots. Full study: doi.org/10.3390/life15…
Leaf Area Index (LAI) = leaf surface per ground area. It’s the hidden metric behind crop yields, forest health & climate. 🌍 Global studies: 🌳 Plantations = highest LAI 🌲 Temperate forests > tropical 🏜 Deserts = lowest Read the article for why! 🔗: cid-inc.com/blog/what-is-t…

Potato cyst nematodes can significantly reduce yields, but some cultivars offer resistance. 🥔 Scientists now use minirhizotrons to detect root attacks before plants exhibit symptoms and select the most resilient varieties. 🔗: cid-inc.com/blog/how-minir…
Local streams might be breaking temp rules, even in the forest. 6-yr study: ag reaches hit 22.2 °C from low shade + hot reservoir flows. Researchers used CI-110 canopy imaging to find shade gaps. Takeaway: Target shade & flow fixes where temps spike. doi.org/10.3390/hydrol…
APPN Narrabri + Ci-600 = sharper root insights. Ute-mounted corer (to 1.8 m, 45°) + in-situ minirhizotron gives 360° root images under plots with minimal disturbance. Already powering GRDC projects and student research. Kudos to the team. Full story: plantphenomics.org.au/new-focus-on-s…
Salt marshes aren’t just grass by the water. 🌱🌊 Their roots shift across zones, anchoring soil in low marshes, scavenging nutrients in mid marshes, thriving in oxygen-rich uplands. Hidden below ground, they’re the real engineers of resilience. 🔗: buff.ly/ha2oEMS
