Scientists, give yourself permission to explore out of your wheelhouse. Missing some tiny corner of your field for a moment is not nearly as dangerous as having absolutely no clue where it sits among the rest of the universe
Scientists in @UCLLifeSciences have discovered a novel role played by ribosomes during the folding of new proteins in cells, described in their paper in @Nature, led by Prof @j_christodoulou @uclbiosciences #proteinfolding ucl.ac.uk/news/2024/aug/…
Signed by over 120 experts, our letter highlighting the urgent need for a collaborative effort to establish a #FAIR database for #MolecularDynamics simulation data, is now on Arxiv. 📎 Read it here: bit.ly/3WjcC7x 📝Support our statement: bit.ly/3zVS3qm #MDDB
Happy to see our paper out @nature today: A bacterial immune system conjugates ubiquitin-like proteins to phage tails. This generates non-infective virions Congrats @Jens_Hoer & @ShaLGW! Link to paper: tinyurl.com/Isg15 Read the thread: x.com/SorekLab/statu…
Proud to share our latest discovery: Bacteria conjugate ubiquitin-like proteins to interfere with phage assembly A new concept in antiphage immunity, and a mechanism for ISG15-like antiviral defnese in bacteria. Big congrats to talented @Jens_Hoer! A 🧵 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Just did a group meeting of a PhD student in the cloud. It takes courage to say I'm stuck, confused, discouraged. This vulnerability elicited solidarity and support from the group, and a flood of new ideas and hope. It was gratifying for everyone.
Bacteriophage: a new tool to attack antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Jumbo Chimalliviridae phages replicate inside bacteria by forming a compartment that resembles a cell nucleus & selectively imports proteins needed replicate inside the host bacteria(!)
Viruses known as “jumbo” phages are seen as new tools against deadly bacterial infections. But scientists must first decipher the extraordinary makeup of these mysterious viruses. Researchers in @PNASNews describe key functions of jumbo phage development. go.ucsd.edu/3Qo5h4z
