in 1873 Francis Galton invented the quincunx (best scrabble word ever) to demonstrate the central limit theorem. If sample size is large enough the binomial distribution will approximate a normal distribution. A quincunx is a Pascal's Triangle with pegs instead of numbers. 1/6

#OTD 1922 The One Ring to Rule Them All was published. Sir Ronald Fisher first read his paper "On the mathematical foundations of theoretical statistics" to @RoyalStatSoc on 17 Nov 1921. This marked seismic shift in statistics, which up until then lacked a unifying structure. 1/3
