I just started my intro classes this week. A surprising number are actually intended to convert for their own reasons. Almost no spousal conversions. I have a lot of thoughts but I am currently only awake for bladder reasons and am going back to sleep.
Being a Jew in progress is a weird space to occupy. Not belonging to any particular world at the moment. Trying to incorporate Jewish traditions and practices into my life and wondering what it will look like in a couple of years when I *am* Jewish. It’s just odd.
Thinking a LOT about repentance and forgiveness in Judaism and the relief that it’s not a 1:1 transaction that places the burden on the transgressed to behave as though the transgression didn’t happen.
This Shabbat sermon. I wish somebody would explain to the Rabbi why sometimes stuff’s gotta burn for the world to be restored.
I had flour issues today. Thought I had enough and was 2 cups short. Had to let my too wet challah dough sit until I could call my aunt and steal some flour. It led to a weird consistency and super ugly loaves. They still taste good.
This is a very... I’m not a huge “how does this make us feel? Let’s imagine how we would be in this situation. Let’s write a poem and do some art about it!” Individually, that’s fine? But in a group, it’s, I dunno. Not useful for me.
That’s an interpretation I hadn’t heard before. Jacob wrestled God, but it was sex and left Jacob with a limp because that’s what you get for sexing God. 👀
