what is this nonsense about "punished for playing in a Conference Championship" goal #1 should always be to win your Conference otherwise, abolish them but if a team is spiraling & also plays terribly in a Conference Championship loss, you don't reward them with a playoff trip

Taking a timeout to avoid going from 3rd and 21 to 3rd and 26 is certainly a choice.
