Sustaining momentum. Hot off two consecutive home wins and fully recovered @RiverhoundsSC developing their team speed with simple concepts that build efficiency. Details matter and various drills/ exercises resonate differently with everyone but any advantage must be taken.
Over time I have removed many exercises that at one point I once heavily leaned on. Prep for @HoundsAcademy athletes prioritizes velocity oriented tasks that are supported by strength efforts that promote an acute frontside and obtuse backside. Low investment, big dividends.
Prioritize sprinting, even over sport skill!
No such thing as traditional periodization in youth sports since no real off season. Not optimal but must capitalize on opportunities as they present themselves. Early winter, post HS seasons usually presents minor lull in major comps. Time to build strength. High TUT, low RFD

#1 question I get about Sprint-Based Football practices: How do you get "in shape"? ➡️ The ability to repeat 🏈 plays at game speed is not built through aerobic conditioning (gassers, etc.), it's built by ⬆️ in max speed and repeating game speed reps in practice. @TFConsortium
Plyos with a purpose. Displacement under control. Athletes become much more conscious of each ground contact when the basics of movement are framed in the context of distance, time, and their ability to aggressively decelerate. How fast, how far, how abrupt to brake.
Contrary to popular belief 🏀 pre-game meals do little to enhance performance. The meals consumed in the days and weeks leading up to completion have the greatest effect. Consistency in nutrition , hydration, and sleep matters most when trying to enhance physical performance .

As power and speed grow ability to brake must match. Prefer slowly dialing up stress w/ combo of simple 1L plyos + eccentrics + isometrics to DEVELOP. Choreographed COD such as 5-10-5 used sparingly to DEMONSTRATE and objectify progress.
Cannot do same thing indefinitely BUT same thing should be done as long as it continues to yield results (data). When change needs to be made, keep it simple. Small tweaks in intensity, duration and even order of exercises can make big difference.

The rate of acceleration is highly connected to of course peak velocity. The faster your max speed the more responsibility you have as a coach to improve the way you get there. Body mass is a factor, so think about power in the weight room & gear ratios of the ankle. 🧵 A thread-
Dynamic Effort Upper Always appreciated @WESTSIDEBARBELL approach to building volume while preserving speed. After a few months of total body efforts on high CNS days back to westside / conjugate split as it has always yielded best results.

How to best bridge the gap between what’s done in the 8 hours per week of S&C all Summer and the 15+ hours per week of practice during Fall camp is something always on my mind. This will be a part of a warm up series before moving on to higher speed/impact scenarios.

One of my favorite Plyometric variations for pitchers Essentially, working on elasticity & reactive ability of the drive leg into frontal plane (lateral) transfer @Popham_Casey_5 first week of these & they will definitely improve (want to be “faster,” in the transition)
