Incredible — “the Labour manifesto said public spending would be around £10bn higher than Tory plans by 2028/29. In reality on the latest projections it will be £179bn higher!!! Nothing to do with filling in black holes” @afneil
This will be a tough weekend for the Chancellor. She knew almost six weeks before the Budget from the OBR there was no ‘black hole’. Yet she and the Treasury still stoked up the idea that there was — and it would take big tax rises to fill it. By Oct 31 she knew from the OBR…
Noticed a single mother struggling to pay for groceries I stepped in to help her out After I paid, she explained that this was just a test to see who would help She wrote me a check for one million dollars The single mother’s name? Bill Gates Lesson: always be kind when…
£15.8million - the cost of riding 131 times round the equator in a London black cab. £15.8 million - the annual cost of taxis for asylum seekers in the UK.
Maybe Reeves bought one of those optical illusion black hole rugs and just got confused?

Climate change is deepening inequalities — and increasing the risk of gender-based violence for women and girls. On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, let’s act #ForAllWomenAndGirls and build a safer, more climate-resilient future. #16Days
Been reliably informed a family with a parent claiming they are unfit to work with 4 kids in Scotland is entitled to roughly £3574 per month and should they be entitled to Scottish disability payment it could add £700+ along with a council tax rebate …that is over £50k per year…
Very much worth reading. A Green Party strategist said at an event I went to this week that they have more money coming in at the moment than they can spend - so we should expect their comms and campaigns to keep growing in scale and sophistication.
Inside Zack Polanski's comms: - Coached in Judie Dench-inspired acting methods - Growing dialogue with Zohran Mamdani's people - An expanding press team, including a former senior Corbyn adviser and ex-Bundesliga employee + more from @sophiealichurch politicshome.com/news/article/i…
How on earth do you get this so oppositely wrong? You have to be WILFULLY stupid. What she's describing is the opposite of reality.
"We shouldn't be taxing the poor to pay for handouts for the rich." Grace Blakeley breaks down how Rachel Reeves' budget was a win for big businesses.
For such an awful Budget, it’s incredible that it’s since unravelled further: - Reeves lied about the fiscal situation to justify tax rises she said were unnecessary - the OBR says school budgets will be cut by 4.9%. Ministers deny it - but the OBR gets its info from ministers.
I see. So Palestine protesters can be arrested when they disrupt shoppers at the Apple Store, but not when they disrupt Jews trying to access their synagogue.
“Over a thousand amendments,” says Lord Falconer on Radio 4, “seven people put them down.” He just can’t help himself. In fact 51 peers have tabled amendments—and if every peer had tabled as many as Falconer, the amendment total would be 28,945.
The campaign for AS gets a lot of coverage because millions of pounds have been ploughed into it. Palliative care simply cannot compete.
This report on the state of palliative care was published yesterday. It’s hugely important, not least in the context of the assisted dying bill. It’s had almost no media coverage.
"In 1975 the white British population of London was about 85%. Today, fifty years later, it is just 37%, and falling.. What’s happened to London is almost unprecedented in peacetime." Remember when noticing this was beyond the pale two seconds ago?world.hey.com/dhh/as-i-remem…

I should add that when Reeves/Treasury briefed just before the Budget there was no need for income cuts because new forecasts showed more revenue than expected — that was simply untrue. Some might say a lie. The forecasts had shown no black hole for at least six weeks.

Pretty extraordinary comment from Sir Keir Starmer, in a letter to Emmanuel Macron, urging him to order French police to intercept small boats in the water. "It is essential that we deploy these tactics this month. “We have no effective deterrent in the Channel.” "No, effective…
This isn't a good turn of events.
