I just interviewed Spencer Case about moral realism! Spencer holds a PhD in philosophy from the University of Colorado, is currently a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Arizona, and co-authored the book Is Morality Real? (2023). Enjoy! 🔗youtu.be/vhhIzTM9yIY?si…

In a long-running debate on ethical vegetarianism with Mike @fakenousblog Huemer, @bryan_caplan strikes back, arguing Huemer (for Caplan “the greatest philosopher”) fails to follow the rules of good thinking that he [Huemer] taught Caplan. Great stuff! buff.ly/XldWypq

Stereotypes are widely reviled. But look closer, and the objections look rather incoherent; “being ‘offended’ by the recognition of patterns in the world is not really something that a serious, adult thinker does”, concludes Mike @fakenousblog Huemer: buff.ly/ew7haCN

Check out my book (with Spencer Case) where we debate moral realism. Are there moral facts, or is morality just, like, your opinion, man? Coves all the basics for beginners, and then goes deep. amazon.com/Morality-Real-…

The anti-conservative signaling in philosophy is extremely annoying. "Consider an irrational belief, such as..." and it's something about climate change. "Consider an immoral agent, such as..." and it's just a Republican.

Justin Weinberg @DailyNousEditor is refusing to publish a discussion on the Kodsi and Maier piece because it does not "merit attention". I was reminded yesterday that he also published this 😆dailynous.com/2019/06/05/tra…

If @DailyNousEditor won't deign to appease @runthinkwrite, @BrandonWarmke, @byrne_a, @Docstockk, then just think of our Yale colleagues! Clearly they thought the issue deserved their time and attention, & their analysis of interest to no less a public forum than the Supreme Court

Why do we say “money is the root of all evil”? Mike @fakenousblog Huemer argues it’s because the cultural elite who like to invent and propagate sayings are a lot more interested in status and power—both better root of evil candidates—than in money: buff.ly/VgRQNsB

Unsurprisingly, not a single word about self reform. Or even a hint at the slightest awareness there’s a need for reform. Faculty do not understand what’s happening and apparently have zero interest in taking responsibility for the mess they’ve made.

Some reasons to reject the psychological continuity view of personal identity.

It doesn’t preserve the logic of identity because it allows for branching cases. Intuitively, you could be brainwashed and survive. Total amnesia seems survivable.
