As is often the case, Hannah nails it. This is the thing that makes me CRAZY about these situations. It's like the husband that comes home from work, sees some chore isn't done, beats his wife and children, and then says, "Look what you made me do!" The fact is that being…

I think "agency" itself is as much in question as "moral." Violence (vs de-escalation) signals a lack of self-possession--we could call it self-control but I prefer the nuance of being in possession of our own faculties & choices insofar as we aren't compelled by outside forces.

Wisdom doesn’t begin until you learn and accept that you are dying. Perhaps this is what it means to fear the Lord.

I recently watched a video of two evangelical leaders mocking those who criticize evangelicalism for putting marriage on a 'pedestal.' Their rejoinder was what I've come to expect at this point: an appeal to Genesis 1 and 2 combined with an intense anxiety about the 'cultural…

Look… Doug Wilson obviously represents a Christian expression that I believe makes the world worse and draws people *away* from the narrow way of Jesus… But this is objectively hilarious.

For those who have expressed concern over the fact that I will be speaking at conference where Mark Driscoll will also be speaking . . . please keep in mind that I recently spoke at a conference which also platformed Nicki Minaj.

Good morning, beloved. “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” -Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Today is a great day to overcome evil with good.

As a young academic, I decided to read King's original writings, not just about them. One thing that gets so little attention was King talking about the cost of racism on whites and his concern for the souls of whites. Yes, the major motivation of his movement was the horror that…

When you meet God in this life, you will discover that God is not only rescuing you right now from your present trouble, but God has always been rescuing you. Always. And then you will have a hunch that perhaps God is in the business of rescuing all of us.

Paedobaptists who reject paedocommunion have to say either (a) baptized infants are not part of the church, or (b) the Lord's Supper is only for a part of the church, not the whole. Neither option is acceptable. Only the paedocommunion view is actually consistent with covenant…

Before I preach on Sundays I steal a quick glance at the water painting portrait of Rev. Dr. King in my office (painted by my father in law). I’m constantly reminded of the necessity to proclaim a gospel of God’s compassionate justice towards those overlooked by the world.

Dr. King saw 3 areas of American life that needed to be overcome in his day: 1) Extreme Materialism 2) Militarism 3) Racism King’s message still resounds.

Every argument from Scripture stating that women are subordinate to men in marriage as a part of a divine order of marriage leads to concluding that Paul also teaches that slavery is the divine order of humanity, per his letter to Philemon re: Onesimus. Both arguments are wrong.

It helps me to remember that St. Augustine's counsel to a young student about the Christian essentials was summed up in three words: Humility, humility, humility. I still don't know a better measure of what folks call "orthodoxy" or even maturity. And it’s become a core way…
