Today I had an interview with one of the freedom riders arrested. He told me how they sang all day to stay alive and stay happy. The guards however did not like them singing, and often threaten them to get them to stop. These threats even include taking away their mattresses.
Today they departed from Montgomery and head to Jackson Mississippi. Soon arrival there were hundreds of supporters outside. But per Kennedy’s permission, everyone who used a white only facility was arrested. 300 people were arrested and sent to maximum prison for two months.
After the incident at the church Kennedy made a deal with the police that as long as they could ensure there would be no violence, then they could arrest the freedom riders and anyone who as well decided to use white-only facilities.
Tonight Martin Luther King held a service in the First Baptist Church in Montgomery Alabama. Outside waiting was an angry white mob. Attorney General Kennedy called upon the Federal Marshals to disperse the crowd, which they did with the use of tear gas.
WOW police are trash. Just as they were to enter Montgomery Alabama, the police left them and abandoned them. They were instead greeted by another white angry mob, and beaten with baseball bats. Attorney General Kennedy had to send out 600 federal marshals to stop the violence.
US Attorney General, Robert F. Kennedy was able to negotiate with the governor to ensure the safety of the riders and the bus driver. The rides began again on today, this time with police escort. They left hoping this time would be better and safer then it was last time.
After the incident,CORE (Congress of Racial Equality),the group responsible for sending the riders, could not find a bus driver who agreed to drive the bus and decided to end the "Freedom ride". But Diane Nash was able to organize a group of ten students to continue the rides
Unfourtunely yesterday they had their first incident. John Lewis, and Albert Bigelow were attacked while they were entering a white-only waiting area in Rocky Hill, South Carolina. But today the riders reached Atlanta Georgia, and some of the riders separated into a railway bus.
They finished going through Virginia and North Carolina without any major problems. I have high hopes that this will turnout okay and maybe they will get there without ever experiencing any problems. What do you guys think? Let me know in the poll down below.

They are leaving today on a Grey Hound bus and hope to arrive in New Orleans, Louisiana by May 17th, as a way to celebrate the 7th anniversary of Brown Vs. Board of Education trial. I will be joining them to give the live story. I AM NOT ONE OF THE FREEDOM RIDERS I'M JUST THERE.
In 1960 the Supreme Court decided that segregation in interstate transportation is unconstitutional. Today a group of 13 people, seven black and six white, are going to put that verdict to the test and see if that law was being followed. This group of riders is led by John Lewis.
