A moral obligation to scan is not enough. The obligation must be a legal one. A simple, non-invasive procedure could see many dogs returned to their lawful homes.

So happy Fern is finally home, where she belongs! I believe all vets should routinely scan dogs they've not seen before & check their chip details match those given to the practice. What's the point having compulsory chipping if we don't use it to reunite lost/stolen dogs? 🐶

My vet told me if Rags was sittings under her missing poster in the waiting room, he still wouldn’t scan and check her microchip registration! Rags microchip is my only hope of seeing her again 💔 Pls sign #FernsLaw petition chng.it/hxW952ry
@VetsGetScanning are calling for a change to our microchip laws. If a #dog is stolen & sold on its currently not law for it to be scanned the 1st time it sees a vet, preventing it being reunited with a distraught family. PLS SIGN #FernsLaw #CheckTheChip 🐾 bit.ly/FernsLaw
