I worked for a private auto supplier for 35 years and when they closed the doors 3 years ago, the only way I could defer tax on my severance was to put it all into an RRSP. All PP ever does is try to generate outrage.
Also, a 50% withholding tax rate —which would be the combined Federal and Provincial rates, not just « the Liberals » — would only apply at the top tax bracket, which kicks in if the severance pushes the employee’s annual income above $258,000.
