Students have expressed anger, frustration and disappointment at the findings of the WilmerHale investigation of Philbert — but in many cases, not surprise. Read what students had to say in my story for @michigandaily: michigandaily.com/section/news/%…
Yesterday, University of Michigan's President apologized for the school's mishandling of rampant sexual misconduct at the hands of former provost, Martin Philbert. But apologies mean nothing when they aren't matched with tangible action. A thread: detroitnews.com/story/news/loc…
UM hasn't just failed Philbert's victims, they continuously harm survivors that report to the school and fail to investigate reports.
this is not a drill: in 2018, @uofmichigan OIE found only 7‼️ of 235‼️ reports of sexual misconduct policy violations to be in violation — let me repeat, only 7/235 violations by faculty or staff were deemed worthy of taking action. so... #HowCouldWeTrustUM❓
In February, U-M President Mark Schlissel decided not to offer free outside mental health services to survivors of former provost Martin Philberthttps://www.freep.com/story/news/education/2020/08/04/u-m-counseling-victims-provost-philbert-schlissel/5578655002/ via @freep

Solidarity to survivors at @UMich. Thank you @HowCouldWeTrust for all your work and advocacy for survivors.
So many survivors have reported to @UMich and were treated like trash. Survivor's voices have zero meaning on this campus or most campuses around the country. I won't go into that bc @HowCouldWeTrust has already got it covered. 3/
At this point U of M claiming they will “do everything in their power to ensure nothing like this happens again,” without any tangible plan should signal to current/prospective students or faculty members how much their safety is valued. Michigan’s universities need to do better.
“If you ever tell anyone about us, I will make sure you go down,” former Michigan provost Martin Philbert told one woman. “I will destroy your career.” Here's the full story about the report released today. michiganradio.org/post/report-u-…
UMich students, are you looking for an explainer of the 88-page report we all received in our emails this morning? Here's our summary: Philbert, formerly the second-highest administrator, sexually harassed women for at least 15 years. Multiple 'U' officials knew. Read more below:

The real bombshell: confirmation that @UMich repeatedly received information about Philbert's conduct, "including during key periods when he was under consideration and later selected for senior positions within the University."
Key takeaways: for more than 15 years, Philbert sexually harassed "numerous" employees, engaged in "mutiple" sexual relationships with subordinates, and made explicit or implicts threats of retaltiation, creating a hostile work environtment

A clear indictment of culpability of @UMich failure to protect its community from a predator and ensure a safe environment to not be sexually harassed or assaulted. It will only get worse. The question is what will the Regents do about it? @MGoBernstein. freep.com/story/news/edu…

Ex-U-M official sexually harassed employees, had sex in offices, investigation shows
The second-highest administrator at the University of Michigan had a lengthy history of sexually harassing female employees.
During the short time I've been here alone, I've seen so many students put in infinite hours to fight the U on injustice - the way it's responded to sexual assault being one of them. We've made almost zero progress on any of these fronts. Students are so tired. 6/

Survivors need Title IX because it's impossible to learn when you share a classroom with the person that assaulted you. No survivor should have to leave school because of violence.
