This is why Niskanen focuses on legalizing both family size apartments *and* microunits & SROs The reality is ~all suburbs have too few 1-beds & studios (like below). Some cities also have too few family homes! Only way to find out is legalizing both

While not many new apartment buildings are getting proposed in LA, most now contain 3 bedroom units, due to the “public benefit” incentive program in CHIP. These two projects (both designed by the same architect) show very different approaches to providing 3br units. One has…

It still blows my mind that Jim Crow-era zoning laws—even literal bans on multi-family housing in wealthy neighborhoods—somehow got rebranded as progressive regulation.

We should build more housing but I do not believe that in expensive cities where it costs $1 million to build an apt, a market based, deregulatory approach to building that housing will create a city the working class can afford to stay in.

we need to talk about how bad St Pancras is at being a railway station, EMR and Southeastern crammed in outside the main shed, Eurostar cramped due to all the security and border checks, Thameslink hidden out the way, arguably worse functionally than Euston

Some folks choose suburbs for the bigger house & back yard. That choice is heavily subsidized by all of us. Others choose urban places with more public space and local amenities. Cities need to make that a GREAT trade. It’s what I call the #UrbanContract.

I largely support unions...but Vancouver has proven that automated trains are SAFER than those operated by humans. It's beyond the pale to expose the public to a safety risk in order to make money.

The TTC union has a clause against driverless trains - Toronto must have the slowest transit of any major Canadian city (also taking the #GOtrain & streetcars into consideration) time to join 2010! #TOpoli #Transit
