I generally avoid stir bars (cross contamination & fiddly). Manual mixing I use a Thermomixer @StarlabUKLtd or Eppendorf (4-99 deg variable mixing speed). Inheco GmbH do heater/cooler/stirrer plate mixers that do the same job and can be integrated into robotic lab platforms.
