NBC’s intros are highly praised, and for good reason. But CBS had some great ones too. They set the stage, and brought the pageantry with this one

20 years ago, today: After losing game 5 at the buzzer, most expected the Pistons to go away quietly in San Antonio. In the history of the 2-3-2 format, no team trailing 2-3 in the series had ever won game 6 on the road. No one told Detroit, who dragged the Spurs to game 7:

On this day, 1988: Out of the most painful loss in franchise history came perhaps the greatest individual effort in the history of the Detroit Pistons Isiah Thomas, the floor is yours:

37 YEARS AGO TODAY Isiah Thomas had one of the greatest NBA Finals performances ever. Hobbling on a sprained ankle, he scored 25 in a quarter, including 14 straight! He finished with 43 PTS (18/32 FG, 2/3 3PT), 8 ASTS, 6 STLS

For my money, the greatest performance in Finals history. 43-8-6. On a terrible ankle. Arguably robbed on the Laimbeer call

20 years ago, today: The Pistons became the first team ever to record just 4 turnovers in an NBA Finals game, while handing the Spurs their most lopsided Finals defeat ever:

On this day, 2004: 48 hours after giving Detroit his best shot in game 4, the Big Deisel was out of fuel in game 5. It was now Ben Wallace’s turn to dominate, collecting 18 points and 22 rebounds as the Pistons dismantled the Lakers to clinch another championship banner:

June 14, 1990: Vinnie Johnson hits the game-winner with 0.7 seconds to go in Game 5, and the Pistons win their second-straight NBA Title with a 92-90 victory in Portland. Johnson had 16 PTS off the bench, and Finals MVP Isiah Thomas scored 29 PTS (13-20 FG/3-3 3P) for Detroit.
