Municipal employees when you ask them how literally any other city in the world solves some problem

Either AI is a bubble and giant waste of money OR it’s a huge productivity enhancer driving layoffs and killing hiring. It can’t be both, yet I keep reading as if they are reconcilable.

It’s amazing to me that innovation and tech is fairly obviously the only long-run route to improve living standards. Yet every major new tech is a “bubble” and treated as not the “real” economy for about a decade. The future ain’t gonna be built with toothpaste and ground beef.

Awful news for China.

Bearish OpenAI takes make no sense to me. ChatGPT has ~1B WAUs that are monetized at basically $0 right now. The last company with this many users that people thought was going to burn to the ground because of lack of monetization was Facebook.

Great work, but this YoY stuff can be misleading so easily. You’re either at all-time lows or we’ve still got a lot of work to do. SF shouldn’t be a merely great city. With the money, talent, companies and weather SF should only be shooting for best city on Earth.

There are tens of thousands of people in San Francisco this weekend for concerts, Fleet Week, and the Italian Heritage Parade. This is what a world-class city looks like, and it all starts with public safety. Crime is down 30% and tent encampments are at an all-time low. San…

Cautiously optimistic with SB79. But always worried when we add rules on top of rules countermanding rules instead of just clear cutting them. I’m always impressed by the NIMBY’s knack at exploiting pinchpoints to slow and eventually kill things. Hoping to be proven wrong.

I post a question asking about Robinhood banking in r/Robinhood and it gets removed by the mods. I know the AI hype has proven RDDT doubters wrong but it’s incredible how even the worst AI chatbot is far more helpful and friendly than Reddit’s “community”.

Seeing a lot of people claiming Sora has fallen off while a good chunk of my feed is stuff from Sora.

Canada, Germany and the UK all must be doing amazing then? This idea that H1Bs are fungible with other immigrants, or that migration is ipso facto fiscally positive has never, and will never, be supported by any reasonable reading of facts.

My two cents on Sora. Having used it, I am a convert. This is the future of entertainment. There are a lot of issues to iron out, but I think IP holders should figure out how to thrive in this era rather than make a futile fight against it. Attention is all you need.

The problem with Canada is that we elected a government that says they will fix the economy the exact same way they destroyed it. Top down management of instead of opening it up by encouraging free enterprise to do it. And we expect a different outcome when in reality it will…

Mitch Kearney meeting with his doppelgängers to coordinate on 1% growth is totally fine for a PM to do - but also going to lead exactly nowhere. The UK and Australia have exactly the same issues we do. Tepid growth, high costs, growing debts.

Great to catch up with my friend, @AlboMP, in London today.    Canada and Australia share massive opportunities in key sectors like defence and critical minerals. We’re working to grow our industries together and strengthen our trade, to the benefit of our workers and businesses.

Tariffs may not have been the optimal way to achieve it. But the deficit trajectory bending of the administration is pretty remarkable in the face of structurally higher interest payments. Infographic: Deficit Tracker_Final - infogram.com/deficit-tracke…
