So all in all a good-ish Covid week. However, just a reminder that the number of adults not seeking wor cos of long term sickness is at record levels. Part of this is record waiting list and strained NHS, part other things but part is Long Covid. It's not gone away. 8/8
THREAD: latest numbers on Covid in England. TLDR: Disappointing uptake of Spring Booster but good news is that hospitalisations and deaths are going down and are at lowest we've seen in a while... 1/8
School absence rates across the UK are significantly higher than they were pre-pandemic. @guardian wants to hear from parents in the UK about the reasons for this rise. In your experience, what has changed? #education #LongCovidKids theguardian.com/education/2023…
We are disgusted with this headline from the @BBCNews and request that it is immediately removed and an apology is issued. #LongCovid is a complex health condition caused by #COVID19 impacting an estimated 65 million globally. #Complain @LongCovidSOS bbc.co.uk/news/uk-649760…
I have sacked Nadhim Zahawi, now that my ethics advisor has informed me that hiding £27m in an offshore account, avoiding £3.7m in tax, lying about it and threatening to sue people is apparently not OK. Who knew?
🚨 | BREAKING: The Government have admitted that they instructed train firms NOT to settle the rail strike dispute because it would be cheaper to keep the strikes going Via @RMTunion
£37bn for a private sector Test and Trace programme that made "no measurable difference" to the pandemic. £12.5bn for private hospitals to "stand by" ... and do nothing. £10bn in overpayments for PPE. And the government tells us there's no more money for the NHS.
Would be nice to think we had a strategy for reducing transmission in 2023. Particular one aimed at mitigating airborne spread of Coronavirus + other viruses! We'll be discussing this in next week's @IndependentSage with @adsquires & Kenneth Wood, led by @trishgreenhalgh 5/5

"We did it. We broke mainstream media🔥🔥🔥" Oh @BBCNews, cc @JamesTGallagher @BBCFergusWalsh - you have been played under the guise of a statins story into broadcasting anti-vaxx nonsense - the same nonsense that just got Andrew Bridgen suspended from @Conservatives
Year-end figures show COVID-19 tied to more deaths in 2022 “That creates the unusual situation where the deadliest year of the pandemic is also the year when most of us decided the pandemic was over.” #COVIDisAirborne #COVID #BringBackMasks #SARSCoV2 cbc.ca/news/canada/ma…
The Swedish 'model'.
Once again - #Sweden has the most #covid deaths. You would think this would be picked up by Swedish media… *crickets* #sverigebilden #herdimmunity

Nurses' pay has fallen by 5% since 2010. The pay offer will lead to a predicted further fall of 5%. The PM describes this as "appropriate and fair"!! nuffieldtrust.org.uk/resource/chart…
UK weekly deaths from Covid-19 in 2022. Minimum level about 200. Government and their allies have made this 'acceptable'.
This is getting a lot of traction. But schools weren’t closed for 2 years! Instead, children were in school while COVID rocketed. Is anyone looking at the bigger picture here?
Little children were never at any risk from Covid. But we shut them away, closed their playgrounds and schools. Their immune systems got no practice for 2 years. Now, six are dead from a bug they might once have fought off.
Shoddy, xenophobic, evidence-free journalism as always. Does the Daily Mail not realise that the NHS would not function without migrant staff?? Some 66,000 nurses and midwives in UK are migrants and in places like London over a quarter of NHS staff have non-British nationalities
How can the NHS possibly be maintained when the government keeps cutting health workers' pay below inflaitpon and below the going rate in the private sector? Or maybe they do not intend to.
This chart was recently published by the DHSC. It is misleading, and I have reported my concern to the Office for Statistics Regulation. A thread, setting out the points in my letter. 🧵
