Every time continuous data are unnecessarily dichotomized a baby statistician dies
This was a shocking book. I just finished it and wasn't expecting what I learned. Every Machine Learning and Data Science practitioner should learn about causal inference. It's a different way of thinking. It makes me look at the world with different eyes.

Recently my colleagues and I received the @RousseeuwPrize for Statistics from the King of Belgium. Huge honor and a wonderful recognition for #causalinference. But a little noticed contribution from the prize organizers is the best definition of #Statistics that I've ever seen:
The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (@EORTC) endorses #TargetTrial emulation with #RWD. An organization with unmatched expertise in the design of #randomizedtrials embraces their explicit emulation when using observational data. ejcancer.com/article/S0959-…
I have been developing a four part clinical trials course. The first part has also been written up as a self-instruction document. It is available here senns.uk/ClinTrialsPt1.…. I hope that the link works. #clinicaltrials #statistics

What's the equivalent of df |> arrange(x, desc(y), z) in base R? df[order(x, -y, z), ] works if y is numeric, but what if it's not? You could use the same technique as desc(), i.e. df[order(x, -xtfrm(y), z), ] but I don't think that xtfrm is a well known function #rstats
Jamie Robins on how Whitney Newey taught him semiparametric theory "over the course of a couple of days" and how it took Newey a year to review his influential 1994 JASA paper.
Now Andrea Rotnitzky on semiparametrics and more #Causalinference
Inevitably at the Rousseeuw prize event, influence functions have entered the scene
1/ Six years ago we emulated a #TargetTrial of screening colonoscopy for colorectal #cancer using observational #Medicare data: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27669524/ Today we publish preliminary findings from a truly randomized trial: nejm.org/doi/full/10.10… Their main results side by side👇
My My! What a wonderful gift for my 86-th birthday tomorrow. Knowing that some bookshelves on planet earth carry my thoughts makes me feel immortal and doubly committed to spending the next 34 years of my life searching for the calculus of our mind. Thank you!
"Probabilistic and Causal Inference" turned out to be bigger than I expected #causaltwitter
Some scientists make causal inferences from observational data. Some scientists think that's wrong. Is #causalinference from observational data a legitimate scientific task? Watching my 20-minute answer youtu.be/l3qG9BV-GAo?t=… may help you make up your mind (starts at 1:11:12)
