the E-2 is a now 60 year old, the US Navy keeps it mostly for cost reasons and in its E-2D version it is reaching its limits in terms of payload & range,the choice by the Chinese to clone it is then quite difficult to understand but for their inability to come with something new.
It's pretty legit. As per local source described, KJ-600's maiden flight was accompanied by a bird in yellow primer. In Yanliang, it usually is a J-11BS.
