10 years ago today, we performed the first equine PET @ucdavisvetmed It was academic curiosity at the time, but now with 12 active scanners, thousands of horses have been imaged and more to come. What a great adventure! @equinepet @Grayson_JC @ucdavis_ceh

🗣️ "...that's why the PET scan has been such a game changer for us at Santa Anita. It could show the initial stages of a training injury like this." Straight No Chaser (Speightster) is on the comeback trail for trainer @dan_blacker. @SteveSherackTDN thoroughbreddailynews.com/straight-no-ch…

PET is not just for racehorses! PET is also helpful in the fetlock of sport horses. The distribution of uptake is different from racehorses and the intensity of the uptake is associated with the clinical status. @ucdavisvetmed Read more: @EVJltd beva.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.11…

Recommendations from a productive forum on racehorse safety with @AAEPHorseDocs @Grayson_JC

The @AAEPHorseDocs on Oct. 11 published a series of safety recommendations to complement the current risk assessment processes already in place for Thoroughbred racing in the United States. bit.ly/48ShFS6 #HorseHealth

“The thing with the PET scan, it takes away the guess work. That's the one thing I want to get across to people in racing,” Blacker said. “It gives you a clear-cut answer to the question of whether you can keep racing or not.” Well said @dan_blacker thoroughbreddailynews.com/screen-scan-sa…

Very interesting study out of Australia exploring relationships between training strategies and injuries in Thoroughbred racehorses.

Various questions have been asked about equine PET recently. For the most accurate information, I would recommend viewing this presentation from the 2022 Thoroughbred Safety Summit at Keeneland. Updates to come shortly. @Grayson_JC @ucdavisvetmed youtube.com/watch?v=wXswez…

18F-FDG PET has a lot of potential for both research and clinical applications in laminitis. Great baseline work presented here by the @NewBoltonCenter team. Looking forward to more to come.

Our top trending manuscript via @altmetric last week was "Effect of ambulation following 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose injection on standing positron emission tomography of the healthy equine digit." Read the full manuscript today: jav.ma/18f @MathieuSpriet @TheACVR @ACVIM

PET and CT in action! Great job @HoganEquine and the fantastic @NewBoltonCenter team!

Advanced imaging is a game-changer in evaluating racehorses. This TB filly had LF lameness and w/work-up a hairline sesamoid fx was suspected.Simple standing PET scan w/CT @NewBoltonCenter proved suspicion-saved filly from serious injury, allowed for proper rehab, and good prognosis
