⚖️ We won! The Court of Session just ruled in favour of our judicial review of the Scottish Govt's approach to licensing scallop dredging & bottom-trawling. This is a win for environmental justice & those who have campaigned to protect our seas. So what comes next?

We're delighted that the Court of Session has upheld the Judicial Review by our client @TheOpenSeas to Marine Scotland, on which the Court accepted our arguments that Marine Scotland did not make their decisions in accordance with the National Marine Plan. dcslegal.com/news-and-insig…

Well done, @TheOpenSeas. Court victory shows Scottish government acted unlawfully in granting licences for scallop dredging.

🪸 Scallop dredging is harming vital seabed habitats in our coastal waters. The Scottish Govt is licensing this ongoing harm - but Scotland's highest court just ruled its approach is unlawful. Time for action to protect our seabed. Act now: bit.ly/inshorecapscot @ourseas_scot

"This decision is a major win for environmental justice & everyone who has campaigned to protect our seas... But it is a hollow victory, because it reveals that Scottish Ministers have been unlawfully neglecting their legal duty to protect our seas for the last eight years.”

Fisheries managers have responsibility for sustainability AND biodiversity, for the scallops themselves but ALSO the seabed they live on. Huge kudos to @TheOpenSeas for legally proving this often contested fact in Scotland.
