Dr. John Costello, professor emeritus of biology, has received over $200K from the NSF for a project with CalTech, RWU, and USF. The team is studying biohybrid jellyfish as a novel platform to revolutionize ocean measurement. Congrats, Dr. Costello!

With support from the Marion and Jasper Whiting Foundation, Dr. Eva Wheeler traveled to Cabo Verde for 4 weeks. She explored language as a conduit of culture and identity in the Cape Verdean archipelago, which enriched her teaching and scholarship in Black Studies at PC.
With support from the Marion and Jasper Whiting Foundation, Ann Shafer spent 5 weeks in Tunisia and Sicily documenting historic sites and meeting preservation experts. She has integrated her research into her teaching, enriching classes with photos, videos, and insights.
With support from the Marion and Jasper Whiting Foundation, Dr. Trina Vithayathil spent 10 days in Southeast Asia and 2 weeks in the Caribbean studying the South Asian Diaspora. Her research enriched two PC courses and inspired a new one debuting in 2026.
PC has received an NIH grant to acquire a Nikon CSU-W1 spinning disk confocal microscope system to support diverse biomedical research. Congrats to Dr. Miller, PI of the grant, and the 9 other PC faculty from the biology, psychology, and chemistry & biochemistry departments!
