It would, in fact, be amazing if the Ethereum merge helped mitigate the energy supply shortfall from the EU's reaction to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Now all we need is for Bitcoin to somehow switch PoW from Proof of Work to Production of Wheat, and we'd be all set.
So the effect of the merge is that demand drops, the price drops until production matches demand, gas plants burn less gas, gas gets stored in caverns, more gets shipped to Europe this winter as LNG, and they curtail industrial production and domestic heat less than otherwise.
Is this a lack of awareness of the potential for future threats, or just being resigned to a very short future lifetime?

Maybe interstellar travel will be limited to ½ light speed (or something like that) so the blockchain can reach consensus on your location and thereby prevent double spending.
Pretty sure a few other things would be more useful. I'd start with exercise and weight loss, then move on to medical research for lab-grown replacement organs, solving aging-related problems, perfecting brain uploads, and eventually hacking the simulation to reverse entropy.
