The Nelson Monument in Liverpool has been transformed into a fortress in solidarity with hundreds of Ukrainian monuments that have been sandbagged to protect them from russian attacks. Thank you to the organizers of #Eurovision2023 📷@EchoWhatsOn
Be honest now, how many of you knew this song was written by 🇺🇦 Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych over 124 years ago! Long before russia even existed 🥳
Take the softly-softly approach with climate change messaging and people feel no sense of alarm or urgency. Tell them the scary facts - that it could kill billions - and they see it as evidence you’re hysterical. There seems to be no way to get the truth through to the masses.
This is truly mind-blowing: Norway has gone from near-zero sales of non‑emitting battery electric vehicles to now close to 100% of all new passenger car sales—achieved in about 13 years. What makes this transformation remarkable isn’t just the headline number, but how it…

Sarah Pochin’s comments were a disgrace. And Nigel Farage’s silence is deafening.
Honest Bob Jenrick is today loudly celebrating Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights - which this week his party announced it wants to remove from every single person in this country.
Britain does not criminalise blasphemy. There must be accountability for the catalogue of failure in the Coskun case. It must never be repeated. My letter to the Director of Public Prosecutions👇
Who benefits from the abolition of stamp duty land tax? The first answer: people buying very expensive homes. Average saving for someone buying a £10m+ home is £1.7m. Average saving for someone buying a £250k-£500k home is £5k.
Ocean heating is - literally - off the chart. We have front row seats to the greatest fuck-up in the history of our species, brought to us by decades of corporate greed, political corruption & public apathy, & paid for by the futures of children we claim to love.
Our planet is hotter than it’s been in 125,000 years. By mid century it’s on track to be hotter than in around 3 MILLION years. You think agriculture can survive this sort of shock? CARRYING ON AS NORMAL IS SUICIDE.
Saw up close Reform's vote coming from nowhere. Voters with a history of not voting... now voting.

China is putting enormous solar farms on water because they want to use land for agriculture
The London Stock Exchange is dying. We have dropped out of the top 20 IPO markets, falling behind Mexico. In 2006 London raised $51bn, this year it was $248m. A 99% decrease. Some thoughts on why this matters and how we change course 🧵
"Farage wants 'free speech'? You got it: that leaflet was racist. Condemn it. Apologise. To immigrants: Farage says 'go home'? I say, you are home." @wesstreeting calls a Reform UK leaflet suggesting Anas Sarwar would prioritise Pakistanis racist. @lewis_goodall | @jonsopel

If you're in Liverpool for the #Lab25 - this is the ONLY place for you to sit and have coffee. 5 minutes from the station
Good morning! It's a busy weekend in Liverpool with #Lab25 delegates arriving in our great city. If you are coming by train, we are 5 mins from Lime Street station, handy for a great coffee!
It depresses me how much fellow political journalists are down-playing this - a dranatic story not just about Russia corrupting a British politician - as they've done in Germany & France - but also about the character judgement & relationships of Reform leaders Farage & Tice.
It's an important story this, & deserves much more attention. Nathan Gill was an important ally of Nigel Farage, and one of the few former Ukip MEPs whom Farage allowed to stand for the new Brexit Party at the 2019 Euro election.
BREAKING: The former leader of Reform UK in Wales, Nathan Gill, has pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey to eight bribery charges while an elected member of the European Parliament. The charges relate to making favourable statements about Russia in exchange for money during his…

This is the old tunnel, aka the 'Birkenhead' or 'Queensway' tunnel. Opened in 1934, the tunnel brings you out on the A41 - which used to go all the way to Marble Arch. Some of the spoil that was excavated during the tunnel's construction was used to build Otterspool Promenade.
