I was thrilled the big Globe winner of the night was One Battle After Another from the best director of his generation, Paul Thomas Anderson. Again, not a comedy in the traditional sense. But PTA deserved every prize in the cinema book no matter what you call it.
No argument that Hamnet had the stuff to compete for the Golden Globe as best drama. But am I alone in thinking that Sinners deserved that big prize instead of being shoved to the back of the Globe bus for an absurd prize as best box-office achievement?
Another great performance to win a Golden Globe in the wrong category—Rose Byrne for best comedy actress in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. Her brilliant work is a dramatic tour de force. If you laughed you surely did it with tears in your eyes
Cheer-worthy Globe wins for best actors in a drama—Wagner Moura in The Secret Agent and Jessie Buckley in Hamnet. Extraordinary both
Stellan Skarsgard wins Globe for being perfect in Sentimental Value. Sounds right
Teyana Taylor wins Golden Globe for best supporting actress for One Battle After Another. Her enthusiasm and sincerity were contagious but here on The Travers Take I was rooting for Amy Madigan.
Peter Travers picks the winners on tonight’s Golden Globes on CBS. It’s a real smackdown, and not just the squeaker between Timmy and Leo. Here are my picks for Who Should Win and Who Will Win. thetraverstake.com/in-the-news/go…
Awards talk is buzzing on The Travers Take as Leo takes on Timmy at Sunday’s Golden Globes, newbie director Kristen Stewart vies with legend Gus Van Sant at the multiplex and everyone who streams stays glued to Season 2 of “The Pitt.” thetraverstake.com
The Travers Take joins our pal Millie Bobby Brown to say adios to “Stranger Things” and hola to a new year with zombies, bullying, and gay hockey jocks gone viral. Plus the 10 best TV addictions and the biggest winners and losers at the movies. thetraverstake.com
Brigitte Bardot, the French sex kitten, has died at 91. BB never liked herself as an actress. She was wrong. See her in Godard’s “Contempt” (Le Mepris). “I gave my beauty and my youth to men,” she said, “and now I am giving my wisdom and experience, the best of me, to animals.” A…
Today on The Travers Take, Anaconda charmer Jack Black, a blockbuster “Avatar 3, a tearjerking Kate Winslet, the singing duo of Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, and a tribute to 3 movie legends we lost. thetraverstake.com
Tis the week before Christmas when Oscar fave Timothee Chalamet kills it at ping pong, Amanda Seyfried tortures Sydney Sweeney, Bradley Cooper tries standup, and I pick three holiday movies that don’t play by the rules. thetraverstake.com
RIP Rob Reiner. The death of Rob and his wife Michelle and the tragedy of its circumstance is inconceivable. My memory of this mensch over many years is of his talent and of the warmth, humor, generosity, kindness and activism that he invested in being a human. And that lives on.
It’s Judgement Day on The Travers Take as I pull my list of the 10 BEST MOVIES of 2025 out of the ice with Leo, Timmy and Michael B in the top 3, applaud the sentimental value of “Hamnet” and say ‘sorry baby’ if your favorite is not on the list. OK, haters, let it rip.…
It’s murder on The Travers Take as Tarantino and Uma school me how to kill Bill, Daniel Craig gets his knives out, Park Chan-wook gives us no other choice, “Michelle P’s Oh.What. Fun. is Oh.What.Crap.and “5 Nights at Freddy’s 2” is 2 much to take. thetraverstake.com
Giving thanks is still in style on The Travers Take as my guest Gary DeSnake takes sides on the box-office battle between “Zootopia 2” and “Wicked: For Good,” Jessie Buckley and “Hamnet” run hard at Oscar, sexy secret agent Wagner Moura hits next-level stardom, and “Stranger…
The Travers Take, Thanksgiving edition, is all about the exploding box-office for Wicked: For Good (that’s me with a pre-Elphaba Cynthia Erivo when she still wore wigs). And critics be damned, she and Ariana Grande are twice as wonderful the second time around. Much more with…
What a week! Our pal George Clooney gets back in the Oscar race, Glen Powell runs for his life, Elle Fanning puts the heat on predators as a sexy, sassy robot, Sydney Sweeney says screw box-office and Kim Kardashian claps back at those savage reviews of her acting. Subscribe at…
Miracles happen this week on The Travers Take. Russell Crowe is back and crushing it as, of all things, a Nazi, a broken theater family makes art out of dysfunction, Jennifer Lawrence wrestles with postpartum blues and a new dark horse candidate for best picture is haunted by…
It’s Emma Stone time on The Travers Take as we celebrate her Oscar bait turn In “Bugonia,” in which she went bald to play an accused alien. Also Texas auteur Richard Linklater crushes it in “Novelle Vague” as chainsaw fans line up for Japanese anime while delivering Springsteen…
