Here is a view of today’s eruption from the Sun, currently en route to Earth. You can see a full ‘halo’ in the data, indicating the plasma is coming our way. You can also see the ‘fuzzy snow’ in the images, caused by particles from the solar flare hitting the camera!
Whilst everyone is getting excited about the possibility of a decent-sized geomagnetic storm, this recent solar flare also created a rare ‘ground level enhancement’ of solar energetic particles (SEPs). Steph is an expert on SEPs, so you should follow her to learn more!

Another eruption from AR12474, associated with an X5.1 flare. It has become a full halo CME. I am truly impressed by how fast and global this coronal wave is. The CME will arrive on November 13, but because of earlier CMEs it will be challenging to isolate the ICME from this.
Plato's Critias was completed but remains hidden, not lost. Pre-Columbian explorers of America used it to seek a treasure from the Atlantis era. Critias stated in its final sentence: "...the evil that came from beneath the Mountain in the West would have destroyed the world."
He said… and then, silence. That’s how Plato’s Critias ends. Mid-sentence. No conclusion, no closure, just an unfinished account of Atlantis and its downfall. Was it a deliberate cliffhanger? A lost manuscript? Or did Plato die before completing his story, leaving us with one…
Incredible indeed! What about the "lost" Critias though? Waterfield claims Plato stopped writing the dialogue, yet a lesser known story says the Critias was finished but hidden since it described an Atlantean mining colony in America, the "boundless continent" mentioned by Plato.
Started this bio of Plato this morning. In the intro, Waterfield says that we have the complete works of Plato and “not a single word that he published has been lost.” That’s incredible!
