No10 has deleted a tweet from the PM about strengthened renters’ rights posted at the same time as the chancellor is being criticised for not having the proper licence to rent out her family home.

It is not the legal responsibility of a lettings agent to obtain a rental license, it is the landlord's responsibility. @RachelReevesMP has broken the law. Her position is untenable, she will have to resign.
So, Reeves “exonerated” due to her estate agent not filling in Paperwork. Why weren’t these facts checked in full last night? Why didn’t SHE check whether the necessary paperwork had been filled in? How did she not notice the licence fees hadn’t been paid? This STINKS.
It doesn’t matter who forgot to do what, agent, husband or Donald Duck. If YOUR name is on the tenancy agreement as a landlord and the property doesn’t have a licence when one is required (for tenant protection) you are in breach, and subject to the relevant penalties. If…

This is utterly DAMNING. Rachel Reeves posted this only ten days ago. "The scheme means private landlords will be *required by law* to obtain a licence" She now can't use the excuse she made a 'mistake'. She broke the law. She really does have to go.
