I think a fair amount of people’s resentment of teachers’ unions depends on ignorance of history. So many people have grown up in a time of rampant individualism and low rates of unionization that they don’t even understand what the labor movement has bequeathed to them.
Also be clear: that yes vote on the safety agreement was not 55% of members saying that what we got will keep anyone safe or is near good enough. It is 55% of members saying this mayor is nuts and we can’t give up more unpaid days to try and bargain with a narcissist.
