One of our favourite shingle flowers is the Yellow-horned Poppy. Yellow petals look best against a blue sky. It's such a resilient flower growing where there is little soil and although each flower only lasts a day it has a very long flowering season from May to November.
Some of the strongest winds we have experienced here produced plenty of big waves at the river mouth and sea spray everywhere. The high tide was only about 4m, so plenty of sea defence to spare. #stormeunice
The weather warning has changed from Amber to RED so we have made the decision to close the Discovery Centre today. We should not encourage people to go out in a red weather warning. Keep safe everyone.

It's a special place. Very do-able from London in a day. Train from St Panc to Ashford, then branch line to Winchelsea. Lovely walk to Rye Harbour and @ryeharbour_NR. Then bus back to Rye (or walk) and train trip back.
