GOP: An extremist, authoritarian, anti-democracy cult connected by nihilism, hatred of the same people & blind obedience to a sociopathic con man.

Constitutional privacy rights are all that stand between you & state legislators making your most intensely personal decisions. Abortion is the start. The party of liberty thinks it knows better than you about a lot of stuff & they'll keep using all 3 branches of govt to prove it

SC’s GOP politicians would appreciate your ignoring their Gadsden flag bumper stickers & we-love-liberty Tweets long enough for your state gov’t to assume decision-making authority over some of the most intimate, personal & difficult personal decisions that humans can make.

"There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain,” - Liz Cheney, Vice-Chair of Jan 6th Committee cc: Graham, Scott, Mulvaney, Haley, McMaster, Wilson, Duncan, Timmons, Norman, Duncan.

Tell me again how SC is pro-business when CEOs have to repeatedly beg govt to do its job. Provide the basics of education & health care. Pave the roads. (Remember Michelin CEO?) Businesses are now begging or pulling out re: vaccination rates. Bad governance is not pro-business.

Maybe it wasn't wise to give responsibility for life-and-death medical decisions to people who ran for public office mostly because they wanted to expand turkey hunting season.

BREAKING: With COVID cases spiking in SC schools, DHEC this morning instructed its director and chairman to contact state lawmakers to urge them to revise one-year laws passed earlier this year that prohibit school mask mandates thestate.com/news/coronavir…

The non-medical people I know are all angry at the MAGA crowd & their willful ignorance. But I can't imagine what it's like to be a SC nurse/doctor who's given so much over the last 18 months & hearing your Governor today say that the science & their experiences are exaggerated.

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster's rant on Fox News about how public health experts are engaging in "frightening hyperbole" about Covid case spikes does not inspire a lot of confidence that his state is in good hands

I still am not over this one 8 days later: The Governor of an under-vaccinated & mis/underinformed state affirmatively undermining public confidence in a vaccine that he & his family received & that he knows is safe/effective. While a deadly virus surges again in SC. Remarkable.

Ralph Norman was among 21 GOPers voting no to Congressional gold medals for Capitol cops fighting the 1/6 insurrection. On 1/5 he helped incite the rioters w/ false fraud claims, comparing US to Venezuela & Cuba: "That’s our reason that we fight...you have a banana republic....”

This is why I have tried to stay away from Twitter. I checked back in and spent the next hour studying Nancy Mace handwriting samples.

This trafficking in an alternate reality, a denial of objective facts, may be our downfall. In saner times establishing yourself as a liar would come with shame. That shame (or the fear of losing your seat for being a liar) would moderate the dishonest behavior. Dangerous times.

Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) on Capitol insurrectionists: “I don’t know who did the poll to say that they were Trump supporters.”

Kudos to the Post & Courier and its reporters. There's so little accountability in SC, so both corruption and general ineptness flourish. We should all follow this series, be upset about what it reveals, demand accountability, and support this kind of journalism.

Corruption has flourished in South Carolina as newspapers close and shrink, creating news deserts and ghost papers across the Palmetto State. @postandcourier and its local news partners hope “Uncovered,” will fill some of that void. Read more here: postandcourier.com/uncovered

Nikki Haley on Trump: “I mean at some point, give the man a break. I mean, move on . . . ." I don't want to hear a Republican claim to be about law & order or personal responsibility ever again. The GOP told lies that triggered a violent insurrection. We're not moving on.

~140 police officers were injured in the U.S. Capitol siege, including brain injuries, smashed spinal discs and one officer who is likely to lose his eye. "another was stabbed with a metal fence stake” nytimes.com/live/2021/01/2…

President Biden’s delivery of this speech is remarkable. Solemn. Resolved. Serious. Incredulous at our lapses. Sad. But mostly hopeful. It mirrors what’s going on with most of us, all of those things jumbled together at the same time. So much humanity. Such a decent man.

If anyone is looking for the story in @thestate newspaper this morning of an American president’s second impeachment, this time for using inflammatory lies to incite a violent insurrection against the United States government, flip over to page four.

This is from a SC Republican, former judge and former legislator. He's referring to Joe Wilson. He also retweeted a call for Alan Wilson to be "tossed out of office." He, like all decent and honorable people watching this, has clearly had enough.

I'm not moving on. I'm not buying that inciting insurrection isn't impeachable. Or that this was surprising. Or the rest of your BS excuses. It's your powder keg. You lit the fuse. Now you say "who knew it could explode?" You want unity? Now? No. It's time for accountability.

As a reminder, these are the five SC Congressmen who fed the mob hysteria w/ false, fabricated election fraud claims & then voted to challenge the results even AFTER the seditious riot sparked by such lies. @RepTimmons @RepJeffDuncan @RepJoeWilson @RepRalphNorman @RepTomRice

Norman, the day before the riots. “We cannot have fraud in elections. We’re going to turn out to be another Venezuela or Cuba if we don’t fight it....That’s our...reason that we fight...you have a banana republic....” There was no evidence of fraud. None. He was making it up.
