In the #RedSeaSmallholders tweets this week, I have saved the best til last. "We will not sit here eating our heart out , waiting for some lover to call" ❤️⏰ a fisherman quoting Donna Summer to portray their new attitude... it was an amazing and surreal moment! Happy Friday!
The impact of #RedSeaSmallholders project on lives of farmers has been impressive! Through training-by-doing where they were involved in preparing the land through to harvesting, they now have the confidence to do it themselves and are even cultivating through the winter!
The #RedSeaSmallholders project has transformed the lives of these fishermen in Arem, who can now track fish are using GPS and fish finder technology, increasing their catch substantially and reducing their fishing time 🎣 #Sudan
The #RedSeaSmallholder project worked through subsidising rather than giving tools to fishermen and farmers - this was key to its success. The people we spoke to feel ownership of their livelihoods now, and know that they are responsible for their success 🎣🌱🍃
One thing that we saw a lot of during our trip (other than goats! 🐐) was ice boxes. The project has helped make ice boxes widely accessible; this means that fishermen can keep their fish fresh for much longer 🎣🛶 #RedSeaSmallholders #Sudan
Good Morning everybody 👋 We'll be updating you more on our #RedSeaSmallholders project today so keep your eyes peeled 👀 This project, which has just ended, was funded by the @EU_Commission and implemented by our amazing national partner SOS Sahel #Sudan
SOS Sahel Sudan have been working tirelessly throughout the #RedSeaSmallholders project in #Sudan to change the attitudes of aid dependent communities and make them leaders in their own success. Hats of to them! 🎩👏
With help from the #RedSeaSmallholders project, the women that we met are now organised, have a voice, and have an income to fund their plans. In Suakin, they are considered the best women’s association, and others come to talk to them and learn from them 👩🏾🍳🐟🙌 #Sudan
