“Trouble” is such an interesting word. Work in anti-racism, or anti any -ism, is typically seen as “trouble”. We know why this is. Frankly, it is about justice. Not trouble. And not charity. Our systems ought to be just. They ought not to favour some over others.

From the government's website: "You have the right to cash your Government of Canada cheque at any bank for free, even if you’re not a customer. You can cash your Government of Canada cheque at any branch of a bank in Canada that has tellers."
Many less fortunate in our city do not have bank accounts and will have to use cheque cashing outlets that charge large fees. A government cheque is a safe cheque. All banks need to volunteer to cash these cheques at full value and other outlets at no fee, please.

People are expected to apply online for the Canadian Emergency Relief Benefit. Some can’t. People are video-conferencing with their loved ones. Some can’t. People are accessing life-and-death information about how to stay safe. Some can’t. Internet is not a luxury anymore.
One big learning coming from this pandemic as school districts struggle to get all students on a level playing field to continue their learning: Internet access should be available to all as a public good. Period.
