Late this party, but I finished "Legends & Lattes" by @TravisBaldree. A wholesome variation on the normal fantasy fiction stock. Absolutely loved it and would very much like to spend my retirement in this world. A must-read, especially for cold winter days and nights. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Don't fall for the lie that you need a college degree to have a thriving intellectual life. You could be a sanitation worker and enjoy Shakespeare in your free time. Great art and the great books are for everyone; all you need is curiosity and a mind enthralled by learning.
Pause for a moment, and read... • Seamus Heaney •
People say, “You hate AI art because you’re afraid of everyone being equally talented.” No, I hate it because you are being robbed of real creativity. I want you to know the satisfaction of putting real effort into something. I want you to be amazed what you can do when you try.
Read good books. Borrow good books. Buy good books. Lend good books. Give good books. Request good books. Write good books. Discuss good books. Debate good books. Reread good books. Love good books.
A reminder:
this is the greatest piece of advice I’ve ever heard to keep working despite the hard nature of progress.
please read ... books, poetry ... please think & reflect ... know your history ... it matters much more than this screen-addled, instant gratification, sound-bite, consumer based irreality tries to tell you
We're witnessing the greatest sustained attack on the human spirit in history. Big Tech seeks to destroy the arts. They're destroying the school system. They want to make us lobotomized people who can't read, write or create. They've turned dystopian fiction into a manual.
That’s the dream.
My last novel was "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Read it for the first time twenty years ago in uni. Didn't love it then, and that hasn't changed. It's very readable and carries an important message, but it hasn't aged well (like other classics), nor is it fun. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Also got to read a couple of books by Craig Thompson - "Good-Bye Chunky Rice" and "Space Nuggets." This are certainly more child oriented than his more well-known work, but still enjoyable. Of the two, "Space Nuggets" was the winner for me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ / ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I'm not sure how I slept on it for so long, but I finally read "Batman: Year One" by @FrankMillerInk and David Mazzucchelli. Man this was an amazing book. I agree that Gordon was as much the main character as Bruce Wayne, but that didn't detract from anything. Read it!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The real heroes…
if we want kids to love reading, we need to return to the ancient texts
As the Department of Education has just been told to vacate the building by 6PM this afternoon, here's a reminder from George Carlin on why they are dismantling Education in this country. “The don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking… that doesn’t help…
Stopping at a quadrivium, a skibby passing over head, I am blutterbunged by the beauty of nature and the reverdies it rises in me. B - Blutterbunged for the win.
