Toxic cultures exploit generosity. Takers impose extra work on givers, and no good deed goes unpunished. Healthy cultures reward generosity. People protect givers from takers, and cream rises to the top. Helpfulness is not a weakness to target. It's a strength to safeguard.

A key to lifelong learning is being as eager to hear "you're wrong" as "you're right." Small minds crave validation. They surround themselves with people who share their convictions. Great minds prize discovery. They gravitate toward people who stretch their thinking.

For many (most?) of us, building is the *easy part*. Getting people to notice and use the thing you’ve built is HARD. Marketing is where most indie apps die I’m there now. I need to get the thing I’ve built in front of as many eyeballs as possible. It’s hard! #buildinpublic

I’m a pretty trusting guy by default, but I think it’s safe to assume that most are.

Have you ever considered that some people on Twitter might be exaggerating their startup's success? It's like the business equivalent of using strategically posed photos and filters on Instagram.

Give yourself permission to take a short break from working every hour of every day on your startup idea 10 yrs from now, the break you took tonight won’t have made the difference. I promise. It’s ok. Better to take a breather when you need it and not burn out early.

I bought the audiobook today and started listening. Awesome so far! If you’re looking for something new to read or listen to, this is a winner for sure. It feels like it’s going to be right up there with “The Mom Test”, “Start With Why”, and “Crucial Conversations” for me

Wish I could remember who at RailsConf suggested reading Unreasonable Hospitality! Just finished it and it was my favorite business book in a decade! I think the ending is even better if you have no context on the business. Also love that the audiobook has a secret track. 📖🎧🍽

UX question: When you sort by something new, should the pagination be reset or kept? If I am on page 2 of a list that was sorted by most recent, and I change to be sorted by most popular, should I be sent back to page 1 or left on page 2 (with the new sort order)?

Welp! I was hoping to push out a small update tonight, but it looks like Heroku is having issues with deployments I know, I know - there are probably better alternatives than Heroku, but it's familiar and comfortable for now. #buildinpublic

"Make it work. Then make it right. Then make it fast & beautiful." This is conventional wisdom in the indie hacker space. In the corporate innovation space. this is not as commonly known. I love arbitrage opportunities 🔥

Shower thought: telling someone to “just use ChatGPT” is just like saying “just google it”. Sure, you’ll get an answer that way, but you still have to know how to recognize the gold from the junk in those results. AI is a means to an end, not the end itself

Good afternoon to everyone except EDM DJs who think it’s cool to repeatedly oscillate beats between left and right speakers 🤦‍♂️

It’s such a turn-off when managers say “I’m hiring”. No you’re not. The company you work for is hiring. To me it’s a big red flag 🚩 for a manager being a self-important empire-builder. No thanks.

I deleted my Twitter account when it was acquired. No regrets despite having thousands of followers. I’m back because I believe 1) Mastodon is *not* the replacement, and 2) Twitter will bounce back despite the person leading it now *because of the awesome community here*
