Yesterday @AfricaTechSMT delegates from different countries visited us to learn about our platform and how #YEGO operates.
Various studies have investigated the effects of shortages and bad conditions of accommodation on students’ performance in the tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Some of the major issues revealed are: 1. Lack of space for the construction of additional hostels. 2. Lack of partnership between Government and private JVs. 3. The lack of hostel accommodation encourages truancy and consequently poor concentration of academic work.
4. Authorities focusing on investing only in classrooms and other infrastructure at their campuses and neglecting student hostels. 5. Lack of proper facility management and infrastructure
6. The rental cost usually seems high — hence, making most student squatters or share a room, loose concentration on their study and go around hustling for money for a living.
7. Some accommodation lack the basic amenities. 8. Steady rise in the population of entry-level students
All these and more challenges will affect negatively the performance of our future leaders (Student).
These days, university and polytechnic students go through the crucible to attend lectures and pursue their academic dreams.
Although some universities and polytechnic have made effort to provide hostels for the students, times have proved that these halls of residents are grossly inadequate for the teeming number of students in the institutions.
