@RepMaxineGrad Looking forward to working with all to bring overdue alimony reform to the state of VT, impacting all going through the divorce process, including VT’s most vulnerable who have limited access to the current process and system.
@VTAlimonyReform We're going to get this done in Florida. Hopefully Vermont will be next! #AlimonyReform
Politics shouldn’t be about catering to the most powerful voices or cowering in fear from the angriest ones; it’s about giving a voice to the everyday moms and dads who pay their bills, go to work and parent their kids. This is who we serve. The House has adjourned Sine Die.
Decriminalize unfair punitive alimony payments! What do you think @RepMaxineGrad ? #vtpoli #empowerthepeople #letshaveaconversationaboutit #vtfamilylaw #vtbar
NOW IS THE TIME to take S.99 “off the wall” and PASS this important piece of Legislation to help clarify Vermont’s existing Spousal Maintenance laws and bring fairness to all Vermonters going through the difficult process of divorce!
VT Senate Judiciary Comm. passed S.99 5-0 with input from all interested parties incl. the VT Judiciary & VT Commission on Women. The bill passed the Senate & was sent to the House Judiciary Committee for action. The bill now sits ‘on the wall’ in the House Judiciary.
Senate Bill S.99, Family Law: Spousal Maintenance and Reform has been sent by Speaker Johnson to House Judiciary Chair Maxine Grad for her review and vote. This Bill will help codify the Law for ALL Vermont Families, including low income, who are often shut out of the process.
How are the citizens of this country not seeing the denial of freedom through alimony? Freedom is being stolen every day. Wake up America!
How many women are in jail for not paying alimony? Jailing for debt is not supposed to be legal but it’s happenning. Easier to get out of defrauding millions than get out of alimony slavery. Should we stop now or keep up this reverse discrimination myth forever?
When someone is sentenced to a lifetime of alimony payments, they can often never retire, forcing them to be an indentured servant for the rest of their time on Earth. How can ANYONE think is is just!?
#AlimonyRevolution #AlimonyIsSlavery Perhaps the greatest injustice within our borders is the slavery of alimony. Politicians know it’s wrong but are not fixing it. Find out who supports freedom from alimony and only vote for them.

Many folks from both parties have lengthy (or lifetime) negative effects from divorce. Having more predictable outcomes that lead to less lengthy and costly divorces helps minimize this as well as minimize the effects on the children and family unit as they move forward & heal.

Mental health issues are increasing at an alarming rate in our society. It is the job of ALL of us to do whatever we can to minimize these issues and be kinder, gentler people! #WorldMentalHealthDay
We have to redouble our commitment to destigmatizing mental health and treating it with the same dedication as physical health. #WorldMentalHealthDay @HowardCenterVT @WCMHS
It is interesting that Vermont was THE FIRST North American territory to legally abolish slavery, yet one of the last states in the U.S. to still allow indentured servitude via lifetime alimony. Almost all other states have abolished this inhumane practice. Its Vermont’s turn!
On July 2, 1777, Vermont became the first North American territory to legally abolish slavery. But in practice, “the Constitution of 1777 did not end slavery in Vermont.” vtdigger.org/2014/02/23/sta…

In This State: Historian finds imprecise end to slavery in Vermont - VTDigger
A new book by a University of Vermont history professor challenges one of Vermont’s most firmly held myths: that slavery was ended here in 1777.
Awesome day for Vermont to amend the Constitution and prohibit ANYONE from being an intentured servant. Lifetime alimony payors who never have a downward adjustment or end to their alimony and have to work at the hand of another indefinitely look forward to this same protection!
It was a proud day for the Senate — voted to amend the Constitution to explicitly prohibit “slavery and indentured servitude in any form.” In these racially charged times, we must state our unequivocal determination to pursue equity and justice for all Vermonters.
Historic day in Vermont. Senate Gov. Ops. UNANIMOUSLY approves amendment to the VT Constitution to state that slavery and indentuted servitude are "in ANY form, prohibited". How will this affect lifetime alimony payors who can never retire as they are forced to work indefinitely?
Agree....like....and calling! Members, we all need to take the concerns of our environment seriously. 🌎🌍🌏
Students across the world are right. It's time we make climate change an extremely high priority at all levels of government. If you agree, don't just retweet, or "like". Pick up the phone and call your elected officials (friendly or not) and ask "want are you doing about this?"
Thanks @BrattReformer for printing letter re: the need for Alimony Reform in Vermont. @JudicialWatch Broad Judicial Discretion=inequitable judgments, leaving low income Vermonters at a disadvantage without structure & guidelines. reformer.com/stories/letter…
