Our new study, initiated by an undergraduate in the lab, was set to examine the effect of mutating histone H3.3 K122 to alanine. To do so, we attempted to generate murine ES cells mutating all four alleles, but were surprised when we couldn't generate these lines!

There are many careers one can follow with a PhD. A career in academia is just one of them, and picking that one does not mean one was "more successful" than others who chose differently. Also, pursuing a career outside academia (which is the norm) does not mean one "failed".
