Don't tell kids to go see the counselor, WALK THEM to the counselor, hand them off to the counselor. So many kids don't know how to ask for help and being a guide to that help can change outcomes. @Pfagell #AMLE19 @AMLE
Dear Mr. President, as a Dog parent I'm respectfully asking u not use the word Dog in a negative way. When u said "Baghdadi died like a dog, a coward" it struck a nerve. This is Dogbert, he died a fighter till the end, never whimpered. Dogs are NOT cowards, Terrorists are.
What if we labeled independent reading as “test prep”? In truth, it’s the best kind.
I’ve said it a bajillion times but it’s worth hearing from other sources. Keeping track of grades & scores is your kid’s job, not yours & grade surveillance teaches kids they don’t need to self-advocate or manage home-school communication.
"You have this venue to be much more involved, but you’re supposed to be raising an independent, responsible kid. When I was growing up, there was much more onus on a child to remediate himself. These electronic notifications take that away.” @WSJ wsj.com/articles/the-n…
"Complaining is a violent move to inaction—it replaces the need to act. Let the uncomfortable feeling—the one that would otherwise lead you to complain—spur you to take productive action. Go ahead & complain—but go directly to the cause of the complaints." hbr.org/2018/05/the-ne…

I'm asking my kids who are taking the SAT and ACT: When is the last time you enjoyed math? When is the last time you read for pleasure? Almost all of them say 3rd grade. Multiplication tables come up a lot as favorite. Having a teacher read a book encouraged them to read
Stop referring to women as girls. It’s so easy. That’s the tweet.

You’re narrowing down your list of colleges. Maybe you’ve even picked a major. If you’re an Illinoisan aiming to start school in 2020, now it’s time to tackle the money part…
Hey folks. When referring to college students, they’re not children. They’re also not young girls and young boys. They are adults. Maybe even young adults, women and men chasing the same dream we all are. Thanks.
the human invited some frens over. and one of them is sitting on the floor. gently rubbing my ears. they refer to me as the squishy wonder. and if my human doesn’t step it up. i’m going home with them
I used to be a school counselor. The job is a mile wide and an inch deep. #SchoolCounselors are responsible for things at school beyond your imagination. When my clients tell me their school counselor "does nothing," I know the truth. She is doing everything. #respect
What are the non-cognitive factors (“soft skills”) that colleges consider (or should consider) in their #admission decisions? #MakingCaringCommon #NACAC19 #college
This, like the portal that lets parents check grades daily/hourly, is wrong wrong wrong... And we wonder why kids are so anxious? Mark my words the psychologists will one day prove constant surveillance and reporting harms a kid’s psyche.
I was beginning to think Foucault’s writings on the “disciplinary society” were becoming irrelevant. But then my niece started the 5th grade. Her teachers add and subtract behavioral points in an app shared with her mom. Note that she lost a point for using the restroom today.

Gave away 500 copies of our book over the last 1.5 days to @nacac friends & family. Couldn’t think of a better group of influencers to help us launch this. #NACAC19 Our hope is it helps you keep families on the same page (literally & figuratively). @BarnardBrennan
