My latest in @nytimes about the likelihood of multiple new wars breaking out across the Horn of Africa at the same time that the Trump Administration is dismantling America's expertise and institutions that have enabled its previous peacemaking there.@csis nytimes.com/2025/05/09/opi…

We have fully entered an alternative universe. This is 🍌.

Yes sir. The killing of innocent Christians in Nigeria — and anywhere — must end immediately. The Department of War is preparing for action. Either the Nigerian Government protects Christians, or we will kill the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.

Every tweet he makes about any country that he is working on that isnt Sudan is further evidence that the Administration's initiative for bringing a ceasefire to Sudan isnt serious. Everything he is working on, Sudan, Congo, Libya, etc are all full-time jobs requiring real teams.

Great to meet with Rwandan Foreign Minister @onduhungirehe for an in-depth discussion on consolidating peace and prosperity across the Great Lakes region. We reviewed progress under the Washington Peace Agreement, including the implementation of the Concept of Operations, and…

With great sorrow I am following the tragic news coming from #Sudan. Indiscriminate violence against women and children, attacks on unarmed civilians, and serious obstacles to humanitarian aid are causing unbearable suffering. May we #PrayTogether that the Lord may receive the…

My interview today with @CNN on the latest in El Fasher and the weak international response to the greatest humanitarian crisis in the world today.

PM Abiy Ahmed sold his soul for a few emirate dollars. He will take Ethiopia down with him, possibly making him the last prime minister of #Ethiopia. Don’t mess with #Eritrea — it will not end well for you.

The simple fact is that the Trump Administration cares more about a fictitious genocide of Christians in Nigeria than an actual genocide of Darfuris in Sudan. And Im at a loss for what will get them to care.

The ongoing slaughter of thousands of Christians in Nigeria by radical Islamists and Fulani ethnic militias is both tragic and unacceptable. As @POTUS said, the United States stands ready, willing, and able to act.

Its been a full week since the fall of Fasher, with tens of thousands of innocent civilians killed and displaced, and this is the only thing the State Department can say. Not Rubio himself. Not an official statement. Just a tweet calling on 'both sides' to pursue peace. Garbage.

The United States condemns the reported mass atrocities committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El Fasher, North Darfur.  The United States is gravely concerned about safety of civilians within the city and those fleeing to neighboring areas.  The RSF must stop engaging in…

"RSF fighters intentionally circulate the images [of their crimes] as a form of psychological warfare to show their might and intimidate their opponents and future victims, motivated by hatred of non-Arab ethnic groups." theguardian.com/world/2025/nov…

The RSF is calling the reports of its atrocities a “media exaggeration.” Clearly, they have learned their public relations skills from their financial backers. And that's despite most of the evidence of crimes being posted by RSF fighters themselves. aljazeera.com/news/2025/11/1…

Sudan Militia, Armed With Drones, Hunts Down Black Population of Darfur. That headline says it all. Its pretty shocking that more attention isnt being paid to people actually being hunted down in broad daylight. wsj.com/world/africa/s…

Shocking to see one of the senior most State Department officials heaping unreserved praise on the UAE with absolutely no mention of their efforts to support atrocities in Sudan. Either we dont have a functioning State Department or else the US doesnt care about Sudan. Or both.

Just arrived in Abu Dhabi — the UAE is a critical strategic partner in advancing America’s economic security and technology leadership. As a founding signatory to the Abraham Accords, the UAE continues to show regional leadership as a force for peaceful prosperity in the Middle…

"Sen. James E. Risch, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, led a group of six senators in calling on the administration to consider designating the RSF as a foreign terrorist organization. That would be a good start." washingtonpost.com/opinions/2025/…

"The depths of the US-UAE relationship now defines the limits of American influence in the Horn of Africa." With thoughts from me on how the US continues to prioritize its relationship with Abu Dhabi over peace in Sudan. passblue.com/2025/10/31/how…

My interview tonight with @AJEnglish tonight discussing what options the international community could pursue to alleviate suffering in Sudan.

"If Europe wants credibility when invoking international law in Ukraine, Gaza or elsewhere, it cannot ignore the atrocities happening in Sudan." Good article and sensible set of recommendations from @_Will_Brown ecfr.eu/article/sudan-… via @ecfr

President Clinton gets it mostly right. This is terrorism against innocent civilians. But part of the answer is designating the RSF as terrorist organization and then working with their backers to have them disbanded.

What’s happening in El Fasher, Sudan, is pure horror. It’s not war—it’s terror. Innocent people are being killed, hospitals are being attacked, and children are being starved. The world must not look away. We must demand a ceasefire, access to aid, and justice, now.

I'll be speaking @DukeU next Thursday in person and online to discuss the ongoing crisis in #Sudan and what the international community can be doing to respond. Please join! calendar.duke.edu/show?fq=id%3AC…

My interview today with @BBCWorld talking about the tradeoffs that the Trump Administration would have to make in order to increase pressure on the UAE.
