Ahead of the budget everyone is talking about how to cut energy bills. Many of the ideas are good, but one proposal to ‘break the link’ between gas and energy prices, doesn't stack up in my opinion. A thread on why I’m skeptical and why MPs should be wary 👇

You cannot amend the Bill at Second Reading without killing it
So We now have a strong amendment to the PiP Bill. If for some reason it fails tomo night, then many of us will immediately vote against the whole Bill
Wrong.
This is a dreadful idea. I’m not naive, I know it’ll be seen as a Westminster village story and nobody will care, but it actually does matter. This proposal will do none of the things being claimed. If anything, it will make the problem worse. The notion that “call lists” will…
Politics is about trade-offs. That's true of today's assisted dying vote, it's true of immigration — it's true of every issue. We must retain our humanity and we shouldn’t ignore emotion. But we can't focus too much on individual cases. We must do what's best for the country.
Listen to disabled people. We should all oppose this Bill. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
Our member, a care home manager, was asked today to estimate how many disabled residents might be eligible for medically-assisted suicide under the Leadbeater bill and how many places might be freed-up if the option was 'assertively marketed'. Is this the future you want?
Interesting to hear Julian Leslie from NESO say the UK is the only market in the world where real time inertia is measured. We still don't know what happened in Spain, but measuring inertia like this will be important in a renewables based electricity system. #AllEnergy25

What on earth is Ofgem thinking here? This is just a way of raising taxes on high earners – it's completely inappropriate for an independent regulator to propose something like this.
@ofgem has approved our reforms to streamline grid connections and prioritise connecting projects ready to deliver clean power to Britain. These reforms will unlock a £40 billion annual investment opportunity to fuel economic growth and facilitate clean power by 2030. 👇

Almost a decade ago, Britain's nuclear regulator hired economists to study their economic impact. Here's the crazy thing: they could only find one (!) example where the regulator incorporated data on costs into their decision making.🧵
On Wednesday, the Climate Change Committee will publish a document far more important than any Budget or industrial strategy - because it will set the terms of trade for the British economy for years. (1/?)
