For my graduate course on digital humanities, I’m prepping a class on neural networks & DH (bit.ly/3oAc5NB), and I’m realizing how truly important this paper is: Fabian Offert (@haltingproblem) & Peter Bell, “Generative Digital Humanities” (2020), bit.ly/3nlnWjm

So.. If you wanted to learn how to tokenize Chinese, be that Modern or Classical, I got good news: I wrote a guide with several algorithms (including my own), no programming knowledge required, just upload your text and push a couple of buttons :)

This is my fav computational humanities article f/ the past year. Astonishingly good melding of close reading, data analysis + archival research, adding up to a genuinely new history of abolition + slavery - a really important topic by the way. Read this thread + then the article

Woah, I also just need to mention, esp for grad students, that this entire program is FREE. From Simon: "To be very clear, *every* aspect of FAHA, including the 2022 in-person school, is completely free of charge." IT'S TOTALLY FREE, if you ever wanted to do this, NOW IS THE TIME

Tried this out for a big C-E translation project I'm consulting on, and just . . . wow. Some strange glitches, but when it works, it really works. And it mostly works. I'm aware of the power of AI, but seeing it in this guise makes me feel funny. Big leap.

Our document #translation feature now also includes #Chinese and #Japanese! Translate whole Word (.docx) and PowerPoint (.pptx) files with just a click. deepl.com/blog/20180716.…

My comments at this panel will be on "Writing Data." I'm focusing on the importance of humanists getting involved in the new genre of "data stories," one of the most impactful forms of public writing today in journalism and elsewhere.

In the midst of ... all this ... I'm chairing an #mla21 "Just in Time" session on "Public Humanities and Literary Studies" today at 4PST/7EST, featuring @alanyliu @Stevie_DG @bcqer @n_j_dames @janegreenway Amrah Salomon + Omari Weekes. Please join us!

Hey, another super well designed intro to data science for humanities students, offering both critical and applied pedagogy in how to use data to study culture. English and literature depts - these are good people to hire to attract majors and expand the discipline's relevance.

I'm excited to share my course website and interactive textbook, which introduces Python programming for analyzing cultural materials like books, movies, songs, & social media. 📘Textbook/website: bit.ly/IntroCA 🧐Blog post: bit.ly/IntroCA-blog 👇 More details

I've watched this project develop over the last several years and can't wait to read the full version. Congrats! Such a clear-cut case for the importance of data driven analysis in exposing structural inequities.

Hi friends, my new book REDLINING CULTURE dropped today @ColumbiaUP. The good folks at @lithub published an excerpt and I'm grateful to @nytopinion for letting me write about it last week. Here is a brief thread highlighting its main arguments/findings >>> lithub.com/the-inertia-of…
