Some people claim I must be Armenian to run this profile, because they can’t imagine an Azerbaijani willingly questioning what we were taught. The fact that honest discussion is treated as betrayal says everything. Wake up, people.
When I asked my history teacher about Armenia, he claimed Armenians came from India and were descended from Gypsies. Racism against Gypsies is common in Azerbaijan; teachers often linked Armenians to marginalized groups to encourage prejudice.
As a child in school, I was shown graphic images designed to fuel hatred and fear of Armenians. Even adults were disturbed, yet those images traumatized us. We were never taught about civil rights, freedom, or morality in that environment.
I received a physical harm threat from a Telegram account that hides its number but is registered in Georgia. It happened because I wrote about the Armenophobia issue. It is now clear that Armenophobia issue is deeper and more troubling than I imagined.
You tolerate insults from police, theft by officials, injustice from judges, humiliation from elites. But one comment about Armenians and you explode. This reflex is not natural. It is the product of decades of state propaganda that needs Armenophobia to control society.
Azerbaijani writer Akram Aylisli became a national enemy after praising Armenians in his novel. My teacher skipped his works in class and criticized him; not hating Armenians made him a target in Azerbaijan’s education and society. He became a true "public enemy". What is it?
Government hatred did not start with Trophy Park. It was clear earlier when Ramil Safarov murdered an Armenian officer with an axe and was welcomed as a hero. Trophy Park follows the same logic with helmets of the dead and racist mannequins for children. This is dehumanization.
If Armenophobia declines in Azerbaijan, the government loses its main propaganda tool. This narrative redirects public anger outward, allowing corruption and authoritarianism to operate unnoticed. Without it, the manipulation becomes obvious, and being a troll is simply shameful.
The Azerbaijani government has acted as a victim for decades, justifying repression and injustice at home by blaming Armenia. Countless families have suffered due to police brutality and corruption. They claim, “Don’t blame me for stealing; blame the Armenians!
Look at this madness in an Azerbaijani school. This is how they brainwash young people. School has become a venue for propaganda, not for education. Students role-play capturing an Armenian and forcing him to say “Karabakh is Azerbaijan.” What a shame for education!
People here insult me with ease, but won’t demand their rights from the government, police, or courts. Bribes are routine, morals get abandoned, yet no one points a finger at those in power. Silence keeps them safe. But in a system like this, no one is safe, not even your family.
Oil money floods the country, but poverty remains high while the elite live in luxury. Wages and benefits may rise, yet many struggle every month. It’s time to question why blame is put on Armenians, not on those truly responsible for these conditions.
The Azerbaijani government channels public hatred away from corruption, injustice, and poverty. Even those living in terrible conditions insult anyone who speaks the truth; their anger goes to those who dare to criticize, not the real source of their suffering.
Armenianphobia in Azerbaijan is a main source of government power. It starts from primary school, and even though I studied in a private school, I still remember how much our teachers taught us to hate Armenians. I cannot even imagine what it’s like in state schools.
In the below letter, Iqbal Abilov, #wrongfullyimprisoned scholar of ethnic studies, protested being unable to speak his native Talysh during his trials, arguing that the restriction symbolized the wider erasure of the Talysh language across #Azerbaijan. jam-news.net/letter-from-ja…
The government celebrates war to keep people from questioning it. If the truth of its horror were remembered, no one would agree to it again. Should we also glorify poverty, injustice, and corruption to hide their failures?
