I've probably talked to 100+ YC founders over the years. A lot of VC's get frustrated when speaking to YC companies, but I generally admire them. There are clearly some best practices that are inculcated into YC companies. Here are a few that I think are worth learning from:
Though bad investors sometimes cut back dramatically in bad markets, good investors keep investing. They know how terribly dangerous it would be to stop. What if they miss the Google? So don't be deterred from starting a startup because you worry it will be hard to get funding.
Incredibly excited to have backed this company, just out of stealth. Epoch is using recent tech advances to build new bioprocesses that break down waste plastic quickly, cheaply and at scale into useful chemicals It’s a big ambition but so needed by our 🌎

This is a great 🧵on uni equity ownership (UK) for their spinouts. Later stage VCs are focussed on founder % stake/incentive….if its too small, founders can be ‘re-upped’ w options that will additionally dilute Uni’s and those early-stage investors
I'm really happy to see more reports on spinout formation. We need more transparency. 🔍 @Beauhurst tracked the equity stakes of UK universities in ~600 spinouts. In most cases, their stakes are absurdly high. 🧵 from @osebbouh and I here: Report link: raeng.org.uk/publications/r…
This is how I try to do my job in leading the company with a culture of trust and kindness.
This is a great 🧵: even if you don’t remember all the points, remember 1 (have 100% conviction around the CEO) and 2 (run if you find the CEO is being ‘economical with the truth’ during DD)
So we're back to investing in fundamentals in venture again Here are my Top 10 Mistakes in Venture Investing: 🔽🔟🔽
Great qu. What I've seen: Pre-seed/seed valuations still based entirely off dilution*round-size. For the vast majority: round sizes are coming down (c.30%) and dilution expectations have moved from lower bound of 15% to 20% with 25% happening again. For the few, little change.
