I spent 12 days in Brazil, split between the Atlantic Forest and the Pantanal. I saw 395 species of bird, which is only 2 fewer than my life list for the UK 😕
The supporting cast of mammals was pretty fantastic too. All round gobsmacking.
I spent two weeks in August in Brazil, with a particular species my number one target. Incredibly, ten separate individuals seen in total. #jaguar #pantanal
In Norfolk for a few days. Love birding here more every time. So good to be somewhere that buzzes with bird life. Finding a black-throated diver at Titchwell was nice, but even better was my 399th UK bird, the black scoter at Holkham.
Pretty normal, underwhelming WEBS this morning at Rhoose Pools, with just mallards, coots and swans. Then this handsome fella turned up. My second otter at the site, despite there being no incoming water course. I presume they overland at night?
Nice birding wander today. No waxwings, but a sleepy Red-necked Grebe (Llanishen) and a Long-tailed Duck (Cardiff Bay) were good additions to the year list. Also NFY was a showy Black Redstart at Gileston, on the first concrete blocks after the car park.
Tern ID failing me badly today in Egypt. Any help on these greatly appreciated. Most likely here are whiskered, gull-billed and white-winged. Thanks folks
A brief visit to the Peak District allowed to catch up with this winter's most glamorous visitors. Hope to see them in South Wales soon #waxwings
Spending a long weekend on Norfolk, so inevitably found my way to the birding madness that was Flamborough Head today. Two lifers - two-barred warbler and red headed bunting 🎉🎉. Camera battery dead, so here's my best digi-scope of the bunting 🙈
Short-toed lark still, Dale airfield. Central part of southern runway
Good birding at Aberthaw this morning. A couple of Whimbrel, 3 barwits. 2 sanderling, Whitethroat, and best of all a pair of Greylag - a patch first after seven years #glambirds
Flock of 20 or so sand martins at the bridge, cosmeston. Also a couple of singing willow warblers. #glambirds
Water levels are quite high at Llangorse Lake. I'm guessing the signs are 'historical'
