NEW: “Canadian urbanist @BrentToderian teamed up with the city of Paris and, in particular, its mayor, Anne Hidalgo, on a new exhibition that shines a light on cities and global climate action.” Thanks @momentummag! momentummag.com/from-paris-to-…
What an Exhibition Launch today at Paris City Hall! As I shared with media & guests, It’s been a HUGE honour to be invited by Mayor Anne Hidalgo to co-curate this unique Exhibition powerfully “connecting the dots” between better city-building and urgent climate action!
BREAKING: CNN says Trump just dragged Pam Bondi, Todd Blanche, Kash Patel, and Lauren Boebert into an emergency meeting in the actual Situation Room to discuss the House push to release the DOJ’s Epstein files. You don’t use the Situation Room for “nothing to hide.” This is…
WATCH: 25 km of new protected bike-lanes were launched in Berlin during the #coronavirus pandemic. They say the main investment was just paint, but the REAL key was being willing to rethink key decisions like where the car parking is. Via @Cycling_Embassy
It’s important that #Vancouver’s Downtown Business Association, who were originally against bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of EVIDENCE that they’re better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced. Bike-lanes mean business.
Folks have been telling me they’ve noticed I’ve gotten “more political” on social media this year. Of course I have. The circumstances have gotten nightmarishly worse, and the consequences of inaction and silence infinitely more obvious. Everyone needs to get “more political.”
🚨BREAKING: New CNN Poll says Trump is the worst president in history.
Remember, Paris wasn’t “always this way.” It wasn’t even this way in 2019 just before the Pandemic. Just a few years ago, #Paris was choking in car traffic much more. This is new. This is leadership. Cities are a result of choices. HT @Khayat_Fouad
"There's always going to be debate in city planning. Always. But there's good faith debate, based on disagreements, and then there's deliberate lies and misinformation." Print article of my @abcnews interview on the truth & lies about “15-Minute Cities. abc.net.au/news/2023-02-2…
You don’t have to ban cars to transform your city centre. But you do have to fundamentally rethink & redefine the car’s role. There are many ways, from #completestreets to #sharedstreets, pedestrian priority streets & Dutch #woonerfs, that prioritize streets for people, not cars.
A complete, connected, comfortable network of protected bike-lanes is a climate mitigation strategy. It’s a healthy cities strategy. It’s a social equity strategy. It’s an affordability strategy. It’s an economic devt strategy. It’s a smart mobility strategy. Etc. Etc. Etc. Etc.
Remember when Donald Trump said there would be people standing in bread lines trying to get food if Kamala Harris won? People are standing in line for food in Cleveland because of Donald Trump. It’s always pure projection.
Here is the @boringcompany Las Vegas Loop going just as hard as it can. After an hour, it’s moved a little over 1000 people, a tiny fraction of what real public transit can do with this kind of infrastructure.
When it comes to achieving better cities for people, a BIG challenge is how little space we have for public life, given the space we’ve surrendered to cars. Barcelona’s “superblocks” show what we can fit if we took that space back. Video by @modacitylife
This breaks some people’s brains. Costco stores usually fuel sprawl & car dependency. In Vancouver, our full-sized downtown Costco has apartment towers above & a skytrain station next door. LOTS of customers dont drive. We live a block away. We call it “the convenience store.”
My encounter with @BrentToderian will without a doubt rank as one of my most interesting and rewarding ones in 2018. In a newly published article in @FastCompany he gives hands on advice to improve any city. Even yours! fastcompany.com/90278237/5-ste…
“...it can be seductively easy to pat ourselves on the back for finding ways to do wrong things better. A favorite example is electric & driverless cars — in other words, ‘better cars,’ when the right answer is fewer cars.” — @BrentToderian in @FastCompany fastcompany.com/90278237/5-ste…
