For a longtime it was chic for Christians to say the “American dream” was idolatry. In reality, the American dream is about providing the necessary context for human flourishing (housing, work, family, security). That’s not idolatry those are fundamental human goods.
The fact is the PCA was formed as the continuing Southern Presbyterian Church. It’s great that the PCA has grown to include many churches in the North & West. But we cannot have a national church with constant attacks on the Founders and their Southern heirs.

The laws of the book of Deuteronomy generally follow the 10 Commandments—with the 5th Commandment including kings & priests (Deut. 17–18). So interpreting the 10 Commandments broadly is a biblical principle. “Honor thy father & mother” extends to all positions of authority.
