Yes, Coil is still working on Codius. The development slowed for a while because we didn't have enough people to work on both WM and Codius at the same time, but now we have an engineer whose main job is to develop Codius.
I'm not a programmer by profession so I'm probably not the best person to ask, but if you want to work with Codius or ILP, JavaScript is your best bet since it's simple and commonly used. If you want to work directly with blockchains, then I think most are written in C++.
Yes. You can program smart contracts and even whole smart programs in any programming language, connecting to anything with an internet connection without even needing a blockchain, as Codius is a distributed and decentralized computation environment.
Running a decentralized connector on codius would definitely be interesting. You could prevent someone from spamming it by charging a fee or making sure opening payment channels is sufficiently expensive. I think the hardest part would be maintaining the routing tables
Are you saying that hosting providers would be surprised if they found that people stored confidential information on their machines? Codius dapps rely less on the hosting security than non-dapps do because the keys are split among the hosts.

Quick clarification, but Coil is actually not a connector. We use Strata's connector to make our payments.

That's right. Codius contracts can even pay for their own hosting or others can pay for their hosting. Hosts can compete based on costs and services. If desired, a contract can suspend/resuscitate itself by employing the services of another dapp that provides those services.
David Schwartz on @codiusproject. This is exactly how i see Codius being leveraged in the future. No #blockchain or #smartcontracts patform would stand a chance. But when will this future finally become reality? I think we could still be 1-2 years away.
If this platform gets fully built and catches on, I can envision an ecosystem where dapps provide services such as storage, security, computing, blockchain access, oracles, decentralized exchanges, token ledgers, and so on to other dapps and to dapp clients.
The main reason we put it on hold is because no proper engineers at Coil had time to revise my badly engineered code. If a good engineer outside of Coil wants to work on it, feel free to reach out and I can help you navigate the codebase better.

Codius contracts run on independent hosts without an underlying blockchain. Developers can write programs in whatever language they want. Codius also isn’t tied to any specific currency. This is as decentralized as it gets.
Except that ethereum is 100% built today. Codius is still missing pieces.
Yes. And you have complete control over the level of security. (At least, you can. This is designed but not yet built.)
