A huge climate justice victory decades in the making - and we over-consumers in rich countries still owe Ecuadorians a climate debt. commondreams.org/news/yasuni-na…
Huge huge win, in Montana of all places, as a judge rules kids have a right to a safe climate. This state has more coal than any state in the country, and has never denied a fossil fuel permit--but change is coming! washingtonpost.com/climate-enviro…
Lahaina, the historic Hawaiian community destroyed by the Maui wildfires, was not always dry and fire-prone. It was only because of European colonizers, who illegally diverted its water to irrigate sugar crops, that it became a tinderbox. heated.world/p/lahaina-used…

Lahaina used to be a wetland
Nature didn't turn the historic Hawaiian community into a tinderbox. People did.
Kudos to @Reuters' breaking news team for including not just the role of climate change, but of fossil fuels, in the Maui wildfires. It is so meaningful and easy to include a graf like this in breaking news coverage of climate disasters. Yet so few do it.
1/ The most common question I get asked when I give talks about the #ClimateCrisis is "but what can I do as an individual?" Here's my answer... 🧵
WTF? ! Standing against @sianberry in @CarolineLucas's seat, the Greens' one constituency, why the hell would you do that? Choose any one of the other 649 seats @eddieizzard, FFS 🤬

🚨NEW: Research from @BristolUni proves #Bristol's slave trade began 35 years earlier than previously thought - with Edward Colston's younger brother, Thomas Colston. Historian @Dr_RGStone writes in the Cable about how he made the discovery: thebristolcable.org/2023/07/how-br…

Edward Colston: how a historian found his brother was a slaver too
New research into Bristol's slave trade shows it began 35 years earlier than thought, and involved the brother of Edward Colston.
The @metpoliceuk is so far from fit for purpose it’s terrifying. The heavy-handed and totally disproportionate treatment this woman received (in front of her distressed and bewildered young son) was for suspected bus fare evasion, to the tune of £1.75 1/2

How the UK government is systematically failing to act on climate change. Essential and devastating report out today by @theCCCuk
Today we publish @theCCCuk annual report on progress in reducing UK emissions. We reflect on policy progress in a year that brought the UK’s first recorded 40C day and spiralling fossil fuel costs. And there’s a reality check on the acceleration needed for 2030 and beyond. 🧵
So why do you support @redrow who wants to build over our last working farm in Bristol which has been managed so well for nature that it is an SNCI and has a potential new insect species? Redrow are still using you for their marketing and you don’t stop them…
The truly terrifying news this week is not what happened deep beneath the sea, it's what's going on at the surface
BREAKING: the White Cliffs of Dover have been illuminated with the UK 'warming stripes' for #ShowYourStripes day! These stripes represent the UK average temperature from 1884 to 2022 with blue colours for colder years and red colours for hotter years. ShowYourStripes.info
